According to Progressive Refinements they were flocked with a wool and silk dust mix after the 2nd August 1950. Prior to that they had a textile lining.
Hope this helps

Does that specifically mention standards? So it says no textile lining AFTER Aug '50??? |

The above says it went from textile to a wool/silk flocking on 2.8.50.
I would guess this is for the Deluxe

| As important as it is (Progressive Refinements),...................I hate the "organization" of that reference. |

Metal. Kdf boxes are also different from 46-49 metal boxes.
Edit:
Here you see the KdF style box. (pre-45)
And here's how the 46-49 box looks like:

Bob likely means how poorly the book itself was put together or organized, which is an understatement.
PR is generally hard on the eyes to sort through and read, or interpret the german translations, and few details can actually be distilled out from most of the text, and there aren't any pictures that perhaps should show more details. A really big opportunity for someone would be to take PR to the next level someday, would be a huge seller even if it took years to pull it together the way it should be.
Plus, as in the case here one has to struggle through just intrepeting the glovebox details as the silk/wool being a flocked finish, since it doesn't actually state flocking, nor what color or how heavy or complete this textured finish was. I've also yet to see any flocked finish gloveboxes on any split, so to me flocked gloveboxes are almost a vintage vw urban legend. For now seat material liners cover up 60 year old cardboard really well, even if you knew about silk/wool texture being actually correct.
PR can be interesting and informative, but its just a ECO (Engineering Change Order) log book very short on the details that was once kept up to date in the VW Documentation Control Department. Nice to have on the shelf as one of several resources, but rather impractical for interpreting full authenticity details. |

I got my ring bound copy off e-bay for $40 years ago from a guy in the UK! I believe the original was a VW internal publication and over the years many dubious quality reprints have been made all the way from stacks of Xeroxes stapled together to bound or ring bindered versions, I have seen it available on CD now and frankly most of it is a waste of perfectly good paper, especially as most of the reprints only use one side anyway, if you need a coffee table book for conversation starters buy a nice classy reprint or search out an elusive original but it would probably be to valuable to leave lying around, the CD is more pratical these days for research purposes

| I agree the english version is useless. Due to the way it is organized, lowsy translation and the differences in the substance. Besides the user interface of the CD is a joke. |
