I know that WW is touted as having the best floorpans in general, and I have recently found that CIP has similar if not identical "orange" floor pan halves, but both of these vendors are out of stock for a few months. Mid America Motorworks advertises heavy gauge floorpans but is also out of stock. The only other suppliers I know of are Aircooled.net, OEVeeDub.com. Aircooled has their halves for $80 which seems odd because everyone elses pans are $130-$150 but they say theyre "thickest available". OEVeeDub only has quarter pans and not halves...

I was hoping to get my car together before the Bugorama on Labor Day weekend. But with this shortage of quality pans.. im kinda stuck. I have brazilian pans but I am not happy with the thickness and would like to use a thicker variety if at all possible...

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a supplier of heavy high quality pans. Maybe im over looking a vendor?

Thanks.

I was told by the sales rep at either OE Vee Dub or CIP1 that no one makes "heavy duty" floor pans for 1973 and up cars.

the reason richard (oevdub) is only doing 1.4 pans is quality and thickness, the ones that he sells are the closest to the OE that are out there

I guess i would just use my oval seat tracks, but would it be better to lap weld or trim and butt weld the panels? thanks

Here is an alternative if it works for you. I just got off the phone to WW asking when they expected to get the pan in for the 56-70 passenger side. He told me they have it if you don't want seat rails. I did not know they sold their pans without the rails. It's not on their internet site, you have to call and ask. They do supply the rails, you just have to weld them on. Just another option.

My pref is to butt welding 99% of the time.
much cleaner job.

And you don't really want the new seat rails anyway

Thanks for that info John. Ill contact them about it. Its between WW and OEVeeDub now i guess. OEVDub is 18 gauge though but less welding with the WW pans which i believe are .035" or about 20 gauge.

My 69 has the WW pans and I feel they are strong and stiff enough. Fit fine and welded fine.

John The rep i spoke with at WW said he probably had the pans w/o seat tracks in stock still but, reminded me that if i was willing to wait 40 to 50 days they would have a nearly spot on to OEM repro that was the same gauge as stock and an even better pressing than what they were previously selling for a litte more $ per half. I am very tempted to wait it out...

i just mic'd one of my klokkerholm pans at .034".

the 1/4 pans actually come out pretty nice. the front section has a lip that the the front edge of the rear sits in. you can't see it with the seat in. easy to handle, too

Remember to remove any enamel or "packing" primer (the ruddy-colored stuff) on aftermarket panels so you can condition the bare metal and paint it. Use a good weldable primer, such as 3m has, where there is going to be overlapped metal and spot welding or tack welding.

Very happy with oveedub 1/4 pans. Real 18 gauge. Jeff

miller0358 wrote: Very happy with oveedub 1/4 pans. Real 18 gauge. Jeff Did you use their quarters to make halves or did you just replace a quarter section on your original pan? Im either going to go with OEVeeDub 18ga quarters to make halves or wait 40-50 days and go with WW supposedly spot on factory repro if I can handle waiting that long. Might be a good time to replace my engine seals and fab my heater channel to look stock for '56 year....

When those come on line we will be switching away
from the 1/4s, less work, till them I want the thickness/quality
of OEVD's product. It is worth the extra work

bartman Sun Jun 08, 2008 6:09 pm

are you guys sure about that 18 guage? mine are between 20-21g.

oeveedub talked a pretty big game about them and i was surprised that they didn't measure up. it's only 14 thou but still...

still used them, though. they fit well and are pretty solid

docanderson Wed Jun 25, 2008 7:11 am

I just received my floor pans from oeveedub yesterday. They are 21 gauge at best. The thickest part I could find on them was about 0.032". Will be calling them today to return.
