Ha! That's about as close to reality as it comes in Lemoore, good one!
Yeah, it's the Navy hub for Strike Warfare. Lot and lots of Hornets. My main thing against the Valley is it's hotter than the depths of Hell 8 months out of the year (I don't cope well in heat), and it's air quality is worse than LA! I read stats somewhere that said 70% of kids born and raised here end up with asthma, and I'll hopefully be starting a family soon... Don't think I could live with myself if I knew I had a choice in the matter, and my family ended up not being able to play or have normal kid fun growing up because of it. That stuff shouldn't happen to kids, you know? That, and the chance to get Valley Fever- if you don't know, look it up. I know a guy that was almost paralized from the waist down, because that crap ate his spine up, and turned it to mush. They were able to graft bone from his hip to repair the damage, the goodness.
Anyway, thanks for the tips on places to hang out. I'll check into it when I get there. Trust me, if I were able to take friends with me, I'd have the whole Base following me! I don't know anyone that likes Lemoore enough to stay, other than the people who own property there.
Almost forgot the other thing that sucks about it- you have to drive at least 45 minutes in any direction if you want to do something other than get grocieries, it's in the middle of nowhere. :x |

I spent 3 years of my time with the Marines in California back in the 80's. I enjoyed my time there because I got away from the base and checked out the activities all over SoCal. I enjoy going back from time to time, it is a good change of pace from looking at the swamp all of the time.
Anyplace you go can suck if you let it. |

| Ive hit just every extreme there is. Grew up in way up NorCal along the coast. On average about 65 degrees year round. Boot camp in San Diego warm nice weather. NAS Pensacola Fl, Hot and Nice. MCAS New River NC, HOT and HUMID like nothing I have ever seen in my Life. The heat drains the life out of you. We wore NOMEX flight suits all day, roasting our balls off. Madrid Spain, nice only stayed there for 29 days. Norway, cold, cold and very cold. Kuwait and Iraq. Very hot, but dry. Hottest out there was 136 degrees in the shade. I would live at any one of those places EXCEPT where it was humid, sorry bro, it will take a long time to get use to. |

Spent 13 years at MCAS El Toro and had a great time the entire time. Some good motorcycle roads and some good fourwheeling. Beaches close by with some great looking scenery. Spend the morning in the snow in the mountains and the afternoon on the beach.

Those of you only referencing SoCal experiences don't realize how far off you are from what is is like in Lemoore. miniman82 is dead on on his assessment.
Question: Would you want to live somewhere where it was a 2 hour plus drive to get to somewhere that was cool (I'm talking about culture, diversity, entertainmentt, etc.)? If the answer is yes, then move to Lemoore. |

Is there any way what you posted could possibly be translated into something that make sense? From what I gather, you're all butt-hurt over someone's opinion. Get over it and get a life  |

It could have been worse, they might have sent you to Fallon NAS!
All the entertainment there went away when Salt Wells burnt down. All those poor lonely Naval Aviators... |

Lessee, Lemoore. That's about 20 miles from one of the best antique farm equipment show in the nation, in April:
http://www.antiquefarmshow.org/
The Tulare County Fair is coming up in September:
http://www.tularefair.org/
This weekend they had the Central California Automotive Swap Meet:
http://www.cencalswapmeet.com/
There's some pretty serious sprint car racing coming up on the 28th:
http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com/
http://www.racingwest.com/news/story.php3/17400/index.htm
Or you could go to Fresno for the truck show:
http://www.fresnofair.com/ns/Calendar/ViewEvent.asp?EventId=113
The Fresno site has lots of things to do:
http://www.fresno.com/cvonline/misc-rec.htm
Want some culture? The California State Honor Band performs in Fresno in February. Those are the top musicians in the state!
I guess you can be bored anywhere. Imaging your complaints if you had been stationed in Fallon, or China Lake! :) |

[-X Dude, don't say it's not "your fault" you got stationed in godforsaken NAS Lemoore. Afterall, how does that saying go?....You choose your Rate, you choose your Fate...
As I agree it is an armpit, so is Oceana. I would have rather taken the first flat top/squadron leaving for Westpac, detailers love to hear that shit. You would have ended up in Everett, WA or San Diego, and your opinon would have been different. |

| Saw the sign yesterday for nas fallon on the way to fernley nv. Why theres a lowes in the middle of where no where puts no where I have no idea. the lemoore part of the valley might be a little warm in the summer but not as hot and muggy as Va. is going to be. Lemoore is what an hour and a half from the central coast 2 to 3 hours from 3 national parks. couple of hours from LA. and all the vw parts and shows you could ever need and less then an hour from farmersville and cb performance not to mention all the fresno state ncaa. sports in fresno. Not to say Va. does not have a ton of other then vw. things to do. I do all the civil war parks in Va. and surrounding states and buy the $50 national parks pass every year and use it in every state I visit. Just my opinion but its not where you are its what you find to do where you are... |
