Now see this:
It looks like a -47 but in my world "1-056950" should be an early -46... or? :?
Then I remember the ugly green -45/-47 who have the same problem...
(chassi # "1-053572"=-45 but stampt as a "1947")
Anyone who know something about this?

More pics from our -47 wreck:
http://www.vwsplit.se/pic/47/ Remember that the factory had a reconditioning line set up for wrecked or damaged CCG and BAOR cars. Nothing was wasted back then. The wrecks were disassembled and rebuilt, often with a new body. This would explain a factory '47 body on a '46 chassis. |

OK, thanks Baron.
My "real" -46 is a recycled -43 so maybe your right. http://www.vwsplit.se/mapp01/mapp01.htm
I checked my collection of early VW-pictures and found those pictures of ID-plates:
Anyone who have more pictures of early ID-plates or examples of "recycled" cars?
(Isn't strange that I got two of them...)

| One possibility is that it was built in 45 or 46 shipped to the occupation military, damaged in an accident and refurbished and shipped back out again, with mixed tags and parts. They stripped any and all that they got back for usable parts, definately in 46 and probably into mid 47 somewhere. |

Well, I really hope we will have the money and time to restore most of them. (at least the better ones)
My brother and I dream to built up a real VW-split museum with restored and unrestored cars. The -40 wrecks we found should be like we find them with a sign who tells the story behind each car.
Untill then, the site www.vwsplit.se is our museum...
