Id walk right past that and not even judge it. When the owner comes running up after the show and wants to know why he/she didnt place I would explain it to them.

To be charitable, I've seen worse at VW shows, usually involving vintage Coke coolers, pink plastic flamingos, and tiki torches.

...along with those stupid picket fences people put around their cars. A local guy had a pristine squareback and he always had a white, plastic chain surrounding it. Gack!

I suppose that if someone's spent the last month getting a perfect mirror polish on their paint he might be a wee bit sensitive about some bozo putting his fingers (or his beer) on the finish.

My personal peeve is the people who display their car with wheels off and mirror tiles underneath. Seems to be kind of a "I'm more anal than the next guy" contest.

I quit going to car shows a few years ago, so I missed out on those creepy car-leaning stuffed kids things. However, I knew a dude with a 55 Buick that always displayed a 50's vintage lady mannequin with it. I think he was in love with her. Now THAT is creepy!
And I agree about those guys displaying vintage Coke & 7-Up coolers- I made a summer's worth of gas money selling that junk, along with those Skotch Plaid coolers and cookers. Nothing WRONG with them, per se, but as a Bus guy, if I am going to haul stuff to a campout or a show, I am going to USE it- Not display it. My old steel & plastic Coleman cooler that I bought new 20 years ago still keeps my beer and food plenty cold, Thankyouverymuch.
As far as "my" bus "display", I have a 3/4 size-scale rubber skeleton that I keep in the back of my bus with sunglasses, bandana, and a hand rolled cig in its mouth. Oh, and a "Matchbox" 99-cent bay window bus on the dashboard. The last time I took my bus to a car show, the judges never even bothered to come look at it. :P

OMG! It took me almost 40 years to forget about that Twilight Zone episode! And here it is again! Aughhh!

Just wait until the see the horrible things a "Crying kid" did this weekend!

wickedwater@msn.com Mon Jun 23, 2008 3:04 pm

Oh, you mean those aren't real people. I just thought that there were alot of busy midget mechanics out there working for half the wages. I think they are corny. I see them at shows and start looking for the car owner to see if she/the of wife of the owner looks like Snow White or Dorthy. People, just let the vehicle speak for itself! The nice thing about Volkswagen shows is there are real people inserted under, on, and in various parts of their vehicles working on their rides just to make it home  . Bet them dolls can't drop the trailer ramps after the show is over.
