I'm looking at getting one of these economical electric pressure washers, 1600 PSI or so. Anyone have experience with these? I need to clean the engine compartment and undercarriage of the bus before I start putting it back together. Are these even close to powerful enough to get that 30 year old crap off? I would like one of the gas powered higher pressure ones, but it's not in the budget at the moment, and the electric one would also work for us on the deck and siding. Thoughts?

I have use them so many times at work they have powerful pressure to knock alot of gunks. It will be a good use to clean your engine.

It should work ok on the engine with enough degreaser, but those electric ones really don't have the power to do decks and siding. I know they're listed as uses on it, but it doesn't work so well. I have one of the compact gas units that Home Depot used to sell, and even that's slightly short of power for decks.

I agree.
The electric washer probably do a good job knocking crap off the engine but dont' expect miracles with decks and siding - that takes lots more pressure.
Why not rent or borrow one for now and buy one in fall, when they want to liquidate inventories and you may have had an opportunity to save some more.
I got a really good deal on a pretty powerful one fall of last year at Lowes. You'll have a more versatile tool, all said and done.

I got a gas Honda 6.5 hp 3000 psi for 200$ at a pawn shop five years ago.Best thing I ever got.

I got a Excell 2200 psi "open box" at Home Depot for 165.00 works great.

Or --as stated above-- look in a pawn shop, very good deals too.

Spend a few extra bucks and get a gas washer and you will be much happier in the long run. I have had both. My electric washer didn't work much better than a quality nozzle on the garden hose.

I bought a crap electric one then rewound the motor for more POWER.
It'll blast the hair off a cat.
(no cats where harmed in making this statement) :lol:

I appreciate the info. One of the guys at work is going to let me borrow his Honda gas washer, I think I'll just hold off on buying the electric one and get a better one later.

He's bringing it to wok tonight, so tomorrow I should have a clean bus (and a pissed off cat). :twisted:

I have a Karcher K2.93 1400psi electric. I have used it for many tasks around the house including washing a cedar deck, my daughters redwood play set, concrete patios and sidewalks, vinyl siding, and I am currently washing 500 + ft of cedar fence.

I has done a great job on everything and doesn't take up much space in the garage.

I used a electric one when cleaning off my pan. It really didn't to the work, still had to do a lot of scrubbing that a more powerful one would have taken car of.

Just watch out where you aim it..LOL. Hit the seat brackets and the fiancee got a nice spray of 30 year old dirt in the face. Lets just say I didn't get anymore help after that..haha.
