i thought USA cars didn't get side markers.

I think all Pigs were Euro-spec. Not 100%... This would be the first I've seen without the side markers.

No, there were U.S. spec Pigalles and Teaks.
This one is from Canada:

Congrats on the PIGalle you'll have fun with it, that Chevy in the back looks awesome too!

Tram Thu Jun 12, 2008 2:27 pm

Don't forget: 1966 was the T3's official debut into the U.S market. Debut of the Fastback in place of the Notchback for USA. IIRC I heard years ago that they produced those two models primarily to "wow" the U.S. buyers, but they discontinued them quick when they didn't sell well. I think they were a little more expensive but don't quote me on that. I remember seeing quite a few Pigalles and a few Teaks in the late Sixties thru the '70s. There was a family in our neighborhood that had TWO Pigalle Squarebacks- one black one, and one pearl white one.

My grandparents bought a Teak Squareback on tourist delivery in the fall of 1965.

i'm still waiting for one to pop up for sale with a sunroof. and for me to be able to afford it when it does happen

I went to BAP here in Phoenix as they have ball joints in stock for my SB. I tore apart the front end and have run into 2 problems.

1. They gave me three upper ball joints, I should have opened all packages and inspected them as one was open and turned out to be the third upper. In the future I will inspect parts before leaving.

2. Second problem is the lower ball joint looks odd. It is the one the far right and has the shoulder. It also does not have the same lower groove cut at an angle which was oriented going uphill towards the front of the car. Is this the correct ball joint?

I read every post I could about replacing ball joints. If I had all the correct parts I would have been done in less than an hour as everything came apart with ease and only took a tap of the hammer to get the top ball joint out.

It looks right. You are referring to the cut. If you rotate the ball stud you will see that it is not concentric with the threaded mounting stud. It is offset on the ball. It will camber and cast at the spindle as part of alignment. Mine had the same cut. I assumed it was OG for orientation of the ball joint if it was disassembled or for factory assembly. The cut is very clean looking and doesn't appear punched as reference mark.

Thanks for the input. I further investigated the ball joints and found out I did have the correct parts. What was bugging me was the far right one was a different manufacturer and had the shoulder. I went ahead and installed them anyway. I loosened the pinch bolt and discovered what you said about camber and caster, as you turn it you see the spindle move out and in. Next up is tie rod ends.

Happy to see it work out. Now you see the difference in the ball joints is the size of the ball stud. I learned all this the hard way. I ordered lowers from a popular vendor. I was invoiced for lowers but sent uppers which I didn't need. They were shocked that they could have possibly made a mistake. A near quote: "That can't be. It's a blue box right." Yes. It turns out so are the box for lowers. They insisted I had to call back when the exact person who took my order was available. Clearly he did not make a mistake it was packing. I was told I would have to pay to have them shipped back and get credit on return for the parts. Shipping would be on me since I made the mistake of ordering the right parts and recieved the wrong parts. I went ahead and ordered two lowers again because my car was already tagged by the city for being on stands. I recieved 1 lower ball joint and shipping charges. This time to resolve it I needed to pay for overnight shipping to get the one missing ball joint and of course pay for the ball joint. I was asked to sympathize because they couldn't possibly make any money on parts if they ate shipping charges. After all that I seemed to be suspect for not returning the uppers which of course I owned. I didn't risk anything further to do with them and went ahead and installed the uppers. I didn't feedback because I just think it's funny and do not take it personally. It was expensive though to get a couple lower ball joints replaced. :)

A store is only as good as the idiot behind the counter. I had a simular problem, but I wasnt as nice. Its funny but they said the same thing to me about the making money and shipping charges. I told them how hard would it be to sell parts if I spent a good amount of time on the internet telling everyone how shitty their service was. This was back in 01 when the net was new and exciting-so the threat went far. Needless to say the correct parts made it to my house and all I paid was return-slooooow shipping

It would be a very long story if I included how nice I wasn't. :) I wasn't happy but I recall thinking about how they held the cards. What I don't like about all sellers is when they get quick to say: "Just return everything if you're not happy." Yeah right and you still have my money. also: " You're just another one of those customers that's happy until you get the parts and change your mind" I was told that once for notifying a seller that I received a rebuilt part in place of NOS and also missing parts.
Back to the car though: Let's see some new pictures eh?

Today I took the gas tank out to clean it out. The filter was full of crap, definitely rust from inside the tank. While I had that area disassembled I degreased and pressure washed it.

Before pics

I was just going to clean out the screen..... Hope yours is in better shape than mine....

Some after pics:

I am going to have the tank hot tanked and then prime/paint black. I have read the discussion between sealing and not sealing the tank.....opinions as this is a dual carb setup????

If you look close there is a US stamp on the body in this pic.....

Were they marked coming from the factory as US or Euro and if they were what does the Euro stamp look like??? :-k
