As an undergraduate, i conducted a research paper on TSA and the back then "new" technology scanners. These used to be known as the backscatter ( google for more images)scanner. It was very controversial when first introduced in Arizona and a few other test airports. There was a wireless router in place and someone managed to "intercept" the images. That issue has been delt with and it is much more encrypted if it has to be sent via wireless. having it hardwired in place is the best bet, as there is no recording device or storage unit. It is a lot faster than a pat down and less invasive,sort of. it is very useful against plastic type contraband and other non-metal items. Unlike x-rays, it will not (used to anyways) penetrate through skin. Yes, your junk does show somewhat, but the screener is not your typical TSA screener and there could be male/female inspectors looking at gender specific images to reduce the porn factor. When i asked one specific TSA worker, why they fail to "find" so many (70%) of the contraband introduced through checkpoints by inspectors of TSA, the answer was, " We get paid to look for bombs, not find them> We need to pay these people more to do a better job. Ever since airport screeners became federal employees, the scam began. We need to hire private security companies (contact) and hold them responsible against set federal standards and fire them when they fail. TSA can't be fired, they are the feds. The hell with them all. I just don't fly anymore. If it's too far to drive then I won't be going. Airplane security is a joke. While all the world is focused on air travel, the terrorist will find another path that is not being watched.
