View original topic: How Much Paint for a 1975 Bus?

How much paint do you guys suggest me purchasing for my 1975 Bay?

The Top half, the bumpers, the wheels, the interior, and the engine compartment will be painted Pastel White.

The Lower Half of the bus will be Kasan Red.

Please let me know as this is my first paint job and I do not know where to start with even a ballpark figure.

Thanks in advance,

are you going with a bc/cc or ss . I lean towards base coat myself...with that I'd get 3 qts for the white and a qt for the red . gal for the clear . with a single stage it depends on the painter and your preference for the paint depth

I am completely new to this, and it will be my first paint job. I have a friend who is an experienced auto painter and is willing to act as a mentor me through the process, but I want to be the one who actually sprays.

As previously stated, I am completely new to this, but three quarts of white just doesn't seem like it would be enough to do the Roof/Upper Half/Engine Compartment/Bumpers/Rims for a bus. Correct me if I'm way off, just making sure.

I am planning on going SS being my first paint job.

Would you be able to link me to the products for both BC/CC and SS?

What should I do to prepare the surface before painting with a SS? Will a primer be necessary?

Thanks again,

98 quantity also depends on quality i have painted 6 or 8 bays in the last couple of years and have never got away with that amount of paint. i would reccomend base clear over single stage for user freindliness and use good quality products throughout youre coverage will also vary with the sealer you spray it over and i would use a sealer tinted for the red as most red are $700 to $1000 dollars a gallon. if you want you can pm me for more info i dont like posting my opinions on forums as there is always someone who thinks differntly.

my amount was based on BC system....two coats of color...clear is up to you and with that amount after reducing you should be able to paint everything including the tires  I wouldn't get no more then that unless you want to be on the safe side incase a mistake is made .

67 i'm not saying it can't be done but there are a lot of variables to consider a customer of mine brought paint for me to shoot his car with because his brother worked at a paint store and got him a good deal the car was a 1971 camaro the paint was nason mfg. by dupont and the color was a maroon metallic by the time we were done i sprayed 7 qts. of base on the car thats 10 1/2 quarts of spayable material (talk about an all day job) and thats why i don't recommend amounts till i know the color and and what paint it is
