I just buy a 72 beetle and the bench is in a really bad shape, so I need help How can I restore the seats( front, bench) without expending a lot of money; I went to check prices in Upholstery places and the estimate for all seats are arount 500.00dlls, I was thinking to taking the seats to the border(Mexicali) en do it there, give me some suggestions. Thank you.

You could go to www.cip1.com and look at their reupholstry kits. They're essentially a seat cover for all 3 seats that slip on over the existing stuff. They're made to fit the stock seats so they're usually a pretty tight fit and dont sag too much... they're $110 or so I believe, cheaper but not as good of quality as getting it done at a shop.

You could also check any local salvage yards to see if they have any that are in better shape.

If the existing cover is complete take a seam ripper (ask the wife) and disassemble the cover, use it as a pattern to make a new cover. Then sew it or have someone sew it back up for you like the original.

As for the padding and all that crap, your gonna have to get a book and learn how to do it or buy replacement foams.
