i'm about to re-do the fuse block wiring on my 57, and am wondering how i should wire up the stereo. i don't have it handy yet, but i suspect it will be a kenwood unit about 3-4 years old.
how should i wire this? and what fuse should i put it to? im sure somebody's done this before...

oh, yeah, and any suggestions on which fuse i should wire accessory fog lights to as well?

HI,

6 volt or 12 volt.

If you are 6, you can put in the radio but will need a voltage increaser unit to make it work. This will NOT produce a high power outage to run anything big but it will power a small to modest stereo.

If you have 6 volts, you'll need to locate 6 volt bulbs for your lights.

Having said that, the radio is typically wired into the four fuse box, sharing the terminal that the interior lights are attached to on the far end fuse. Use a test light and make sure you get the fused side and not the feed side.

In some states, fog lights can ONLY operate with the low beam headlights on. You'll most likely need a relay because of the power draw. Wire the relay trip circuit into the highbeam wire and a run good strong hot feed to it, I'd pull a new properly sized wire off of the battery with its own inline fuse so as not to suck too much power from an often marginally fed and often overtaxed fuse system. The relay will be your "kill" switch to prevent accidental electrical draw if left on, they will only be left on if your headlight low beams are left on.
You'll need to install a fog light switch somewhere along the way between the low beam wire and the relay, all depends on how stock you are and how convenient you wish the switch to be to the driver. You don't want the fog lights on everytime the low beam comes on, you want to shut them off except of course, in fog.

That's how I'd do it, I know others feel differently. Here in NJ fog lights can only work with a low beam light.
