Hey...Lets see some progress, huh!

Last time we talked, you had all sorts of parts comin'. Anything accomplished? I wanna se your hack....I mean....trim job on that front end.

Spunpuppy Sat Jul 26, 2008 2:17 pm

Okay here we are - after the trimming has been done before any primer or paint - all the rats nest of wires has been addressed.

and now the interior floor pans after treatment and paint. these will be covered with sound proof and carpet so not too concerned with looks here.

dash is next - waitin on gauges

and finally after paint to the front end. Purty!

Next project - The pillar, gonna need motorbreath for this one. Of course when things calm down a bit - btw, good luck on the new job bro.

Might even bribe with some brews and steaks ( yeah I said it ) real meat ! to do the rear torsion while we are at it. who knows though I may have that done b4. sorry I'm gonna miss ya all on the 2nd. I can only bust ass only so fast.

Looking Great Paulie.....

And i'm all in on helping with the pillar... just give me about a 1-2 weeks for this "wind knocked out" feeling to go away... hopefully....

...till then, just keep on doing what your doing.... and don't spend so much on new gauges and whatnot that a motor passes you by... warning lights alone have gotten me through at least a handfull of desert trips....

That said... anyone got a good running dual port motor for Paulie? Or even just a 1600 short block... ( I can donate some dual port heads that have been sitting in my storage...)

What all do you need? We know your brakes are good...so:
Motor
clutch
Wiring
tires
seatbelts?

runslikeapenguin Sat Jul 26, 2008 6:01 pm

one thing i noticed, those Avis style adjuster might cause trouble, keep an eye on them

motorbreath53 Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:41 pm

The adjusters'l be fine... and if needed, we can do up some neat bracketry to support em....

OR...

You could just run em till they break, then stick an A-Arm front end on and procede to EMBARASS a certain piece of Green Lawn Art...

...now, after that comment, if you hold really still, you can almost hear Chris sobbing like a 5 year old girl....

Very nice car , as far as the motor goes, if your capable i would take it apart have a machine shop inspect it and machine where needed, have the heads rebuilt, have the case full flowed slap it together and put it back in the car. If you want some more power slap some 94's on there.

Spunpuppy Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:25 pm

cool - thanks for the props gentlemen. inspiration here only encourages.... patience I have Danny. Whenever your ready. Yes, needs. Engine or a good recommendation for rebuild shop. Would hate for those heads to go to waste. seats and seat belts. Lots of choices still shopping around for price. but like u said. need to focus on the engine for now. wiring is here waiting on that fuse panel you recommended through summit to arrive. then its a matter of doin' the dirty work. suppose I'll at least start it and swap it when it comes in. Tires are also en route - fronts anyway - still haven't decided what I'll throw in back yet. Honestly despite the engine hold back i cant wait to get the interior done and completed. Oh yeah and a fuel tank Wrisley has a line on some that fit the rear package compartment, we're lookin into it will have to take a trip northward to get them but exciting as well. love road trips.

The wiring isnt too diifcult, as long as you have Danny on speed dial!! I got the same fuse box and have yet to hook it up, we should have baja play date. Ok that was lame.....

Serioulsy, look into the cost of a rebuild vs. the cost of a "new" motor. Ive been seeing some cheap long blocks on craigs. Weve got to get yours runnin' now!!

Spunpuppy Fri Aug 01, 2008 12:02 pm

play date - eeewwww  [-X

think your right, been seein a few here and there. questions to the forum though? will upper end parts from my h series 1500 fit on a 1600 block?

DTMRacing Fri Aug 01, 2008 12:44 pm

Check out the parts trader, there is a guy always selling rebuilt VW motors, I think its Kline VW.

whew!! too much - lookin to spend about 500-600 bucks initially I think I have a grand so im tempted to do a 1915 Ye Ha !!! but I do need seats still.

cwrisley Mon Aug 04, 2008 8:15 pm

Forget seats, if we both had 1915s we could really beat up on a certain smurf-colored baja!! All kidding aside (but I wasnt kidding), get that thing running first. You have "decent" seats that will hold you in the car for now. And we still dont know the true condition of your tranny, so get ready for a possible hurdle there too. Stoked to hear that the fundage is there for it though, we'll find ya something.
