Any of the toggles from the hotvw's vendors would be fine.. (the sandsealed ones...) should be high enough amp....

check out DelCity though they have some pretty damn good prices... and neat stuff too...

Ricko is all about that place, and for good reason for what i've seen....

cool - got all the switches i need actually. also, figured out the relay issue. 56 goes to light switch 56a goes to low beams. F goes to high beams and the S is actually set up for a momentary switch, you know like the ones on the floor. found an old schematic i downloaded from "the other forum" ages ago. cool.

Here are the new picts roll cage prep paint, interior prep paint hope you enjoy

sound proofing

seats thanks again Rico

and some custom work on my speedo - couldn't bear to toss it out since it works and all. Gonna carry the theme through all my gauges. Should also match my exterior paint ideas too.

Weel, as you can see I've been busy. Still messin' with the wiring and such. carpet is giong in next. (yeah I know - Carpet in a baja......) Windows have new rubber and fresh tint. probably wont put them in until exterior is painted. I just hope the rain doesn't show it's face anytime soon, no garage and all. Idea just struck  I should put some cardboard or thin wood in there for the time being to keep out the weather. Damn, I'm smart. Anyhow, anyone know where I can get cheap scrapers, felts and such for both doors. mine are pretty shot. Seen several kits online, just thought I would throw it out there in case anyone had some lying around or wanted to sell. One day soon that nasty rusted pillar will be done - just waitin' on the power that be (motorbreath) to have some sane moments to assist. Serious bribes on their way........ thanks again to everyone for their continued inspiration and support. until next time.

Paulie.... kickin ass friend... I can't wait to see this thing drive again.

*Those seats kick ass... Do you already have mounts for them? Or will we be doing some fabricatin' at my place? (also, if you don't have any plans for those other buckets, i'd love to stash them back in my storage for a future DD street bug idea i'm kicking around...)

*The Speedo... WOW! did you paint the whole face, or just the graphics? Before and After Pics???

*Windows, do yourself a favor and put the windows back in. It takes a half hour if you've got two people and is not that hard. When you're ready for paint, it takes another 30min to take em back out... JUST SAY NO to cardboard and plywood Paulie.....

Spunpuppy Tue Sep 16, 2008 11:51 am

Good idea bout the windows. As for the seats. they were yours to begin wit so hell yeah. No mounts yet. Thought we could fab up some flat bars ya know. real easy like. Unfortunately I was unable to take before and after pics of the speedo process. Real easy though. took it apart (Stock VW - really) real careful like. Scanned in the original faceplate so reference marks were correct. placed it in photoshop and went to town. Here are some other ideas I came up with. some were obviously too damn busy for the face. So after a couple of hours. Bingo. I had what made sense. I think it'll be bad a$$ when all my gauges carry the same theme throughout. Printed out the new image. careful cutting with an exacto. Some clear coat and adhesive........bam!!

Dude... that is so F-ING cool....

Some of those are pretty gawdy...

look like they belong on a mini-truck... maybe on a nissan hardbody with a Bad Boy Club sticker, and license plate frenched in to the tailgate all crooked...(I say this with much love...)

but the idea is so friggun sick....

Even just having the ability to change color and font on the numbers would be cool.

bigal422 Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:36 pm

I'll take one with the skull.

CopperBaja Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:56 pm

The last one is pretty sweet...the numbers get bigger as you go faster!

Looks good neighbor!
What are you using for soundproofing?

Spunpuppy Tue Sep 16, 2008 4:21 pm

Insulation, It's cheap. Home depot, Lowe's. Duct insulation. I used it in my truck when I installed my bad A** stereo. No issues with moisture retention or nothing. And it dampens really really good. dynamat is overrated. and I hate tar base. I pulled enough of it out of the bug already.

CopperBaja Tue Sep 16, 2008 4:27 pm

How well does it stick? I used a peel n seal type window flashing from Lowe's. Works really well.

What's your carpet plans?

Spunpuppy Tue Sep 16, 2008 4:55 pm

Sticks pretty good, up sidewalls and all. the trick is to wipe everything down with some acetone from the local ace hardware to get everything nice clean and tacky. helps with adhesion a lot. Bought a carpet kit somewhere online a while ago. that's next. Need to replace my rotted pillar though first and weld in some seat mounts. Need Motorbreath for that stuff. Haven't welded anything since high school. We'll get together soon and move things along. I still have a lot to keep me busy.

Spunpuppy Wed Oct 28, 2009 3:18 pm

okay, It's been a while so I'll summarize a bit here. firest off thank everyone for their ideas, support and "keepin it in the family" on great deals.

First exterior work, cleaned up the rear end and wheel wells.

Then picked up Copper's old 1600, cleaned it up a bit, and because I can't leave anything alone I cleaned it up a bit and added some custom paint.

Also picked up a weber progressive carb with intake for $50.00. (no pics)
Then onto the dash, and gauges. Tied in my future paint scheme and painted the dash to match. Picked up a fiberglass deal from ebay. Here it is painted. (thought I would keep the glove box too.

Sorry about the camera phone pics, it's all I had on hand at the time.

Then onto the gauge disassembly, customization, and rebuild. I decided to change my theme here, since the metal rips and blue diamond plate were becoming a bit too much. Besides, she is bad @ss. Here is the tach, speedo, fuel, and volt gauges.

and here is everything in place and in the bug. Again sorry about the low quality pics.

Here is how he sits today, I have purchased a new front end uncut for 110.00 bucks (another great deal). No pics of it yet.

And here are my paint plans.

Next comes electrical, Got a killer fuse box and everything else is in place to finish the job. Should be fun, (yeah right) but interesting nonetheless. I'll keep ya'll posted. Won't do a step by step since there is enough of that on the site. won't make this season agin, but hey, takin' my time.

I like those customized gauges! After painting the body, I'm sure it will look awesome.
