I picked up a AS41 Mexican case today, Is this case ok to build a mild 1776 out of? the ser. # on the case is AS671645, It is a dual relief case, It has some kind or sensor fitting hole in the top of the case that would point towards the flywheel, what would this be for? It measures 65.5mm cross the large main bearing saddles, what alinebore would this be?
Thanks for any help.

| my brazilian as41 is holding up very well no problems what so ever for my 1914. and that sensor hole would indicate it was used as a EFI case |

| I'm using one for my 2165. I've read the quality control was superior to the Brazilian cases. |

Excellent case to build from, 65.5mm would work out to a .020 line bore, so it has only been line bored one time so far from stock.
The hole you see is just for a sensor used in the fuel injected engines, fill it with silicone and forget about it.
Good luck with your build. :D |

Thank you SRP1
I have gone over it with a flashlight and cannot see any cracks, now I have to find somebody that will throw it in there auto transmission tank to clean it up so I can really go over it. Can I wash a case with mag wheel cleaner? it has some kind of acid in it, do you think it will harm it? I bought it from some guy on Craigslist for $40.00, he had 1 more maybe I should pick it up too.

| Do you have a photo of that case? Something that says it was manufactured in Mexico instead of brazil? I was in Brazil in 2002 at Autolinia and they were shipping off Cases to Mexico for use in the last cars being manufactured there. So I am curious to see if they really were manufactured in Mexico. |

This is the only pic I have of it. It was bought new about 1992 and says "Hecho En Mexico" under the distributor and Mexico AS41 on the sump area. I also have a Mexican AS-41 case gusseted by Pauter. It was purchased new in 1988 and spent a few years in a sandrail as a 2180 and an 1835 and finally as a 1776 in my dad's 68 bus. I had to cut some of the gussets off to run all the tin in the bus.
