Something looks odd with the rear window.

I agree... looks odd.. a little too large and the wrong shape.

A bunch of us were watching it drive in from a distance, was rather clear that it was a replica, but it looked rather cool even despite the obvious authenticity issues. No one at the time ran over to it, maybe someone checked it out later though, was just sort of clear what it was and wasn't. The cars' worth checking out in detail however were Dave Havillands' still fresh looking gorgeous 53, Wiggy's amazing lowlight ghia, and Humberto Lapa's fresh out of the resto shop 64 sunroof which was everything he is known for.

I saw the car. They had it listed on the show card as a 41', but it was parked in the custom class from what I remember, nowhere near the other early cars. I noticed it had an oval dash so that to me said its obviously something someone put together from parts.

I didn't think that it looked like split dash from through the back window in the pic above.

It almost looks like an oval that someone put a bar in the center of the back window.

That car was sick.

Wiggy Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:32 pm

The "replica" was ok. It was interesting but you can tell easily that it wasn't too close.

Took a double take though when it pulled in.

I saw Humberto's '64 yesterday (Thanks again Humberto!-)) and I know it's the wrong forum completely, but hearing the motor run and seeing the detail on that car was awesome. It's a very, very, very nice car indeed. :D

I saw it drive in and it only took a secound from 200 feet to see it was'nt real.

That car was there last year as well. Oval dash, not perfect, but I still kinda liked it! I have some pics, gotta get em online.

It was listed as a '41 and on the card next to the year it said " ( FAKE )" so he was clearly letting everyone know it was a fake right from the start. It was o.k. just seemed a little slapped together thats all.

Obviously an oval made into a split. The windows aren't symetrical.

Yeah, that's the way to do it! I know this 'cos I did it to my car in the '80ies. There are two ways to tell a fake split from a real one. The window shape is too rounded - it just doesn't look right and the curve of the window follows close to the upwards curve of the louvres. On a real split those curves are different.

I think this is a car i sold 3-4 yrs ago. It was a 80's show car that was known as "Tha Shrimp" for the prawn color. I bought it and started to make a rough type 82 clone. It was a 56 to start, with a bar added in the back window.....I sold it needing alot to complete..... I thought I sold it to Renowil? maybe?

very true also, you seldom if ever see original paint survivor cars anywhere near that condition.
