I've had this car for about seven years. The car was a mess when I bought it for the hefty price of $300. I took the old worn 1600 out and sold it for $300, then put in my 1776 in it I had.It spent the first 2 year's as my daily driver. Then I started fixing it up for my wife to drive-so it had to be purdy. My wife told me what she wanted and I started work on it, I did all the interior work on it, got some help from a friend with the body work and paint. I put a slight lowering job on it. In 2004 I built a 1914 and put it in the car for more power. Then right around 2005 I got the offroad bug hanging with some friends that have offroad cars and I decided I wanted to give the car some new life and make it into a dual purpose car and lift it up making it a class 11. My plans for the car is to be a trail car not a competition car, just have fun with it. Here is some specs on the car:
Front
Onetime adjustable beam (long story)
Jaytech 3in raised spindles
Coilover shocks
7x15 tires
Rear
Springplates adjusted
Coilover shocks
7x15 tires
Engine
69 DPR crank
94 cylinders and pistons
web 110 284º 256º 0,435" 11,05 108º/ web lifters
straight cut steel/steel gears
Scat 1.25 ratio rockers/ chromolly pushrods
040 heads with 35x32 /50.6cc, p/p, dual springs, 3 angle valve job, manley valves, dual springs done by AJ Simms
12.5 flywheel
DPR stock rods
kennedy stage 2 pressure plate, daiken heavy duty disc
Kadron 46 IDK Carbs Scat Linkage
The car is far from even being halfway done. Future plans for the car are:
Front Disk Brakes
Roll Cage
Tranny Upgrade
OffRoad seats
Better SeatBelts
New beam
When i got it
Lowered
Raised

....sweet tap dancing christ......
I hope you just dropped that one to see if it irritated anyone...
If not, do you just sit in front of your computer with a twitching eye everytime you see Empi Coilovers? Did an EMPI coilover hurt you when you were younger.... did the EMPI coilover say it was a secret that you couldn't tell mommy about???
...or is your sole purpose in life to spread the word that somthing that somthing from EMPI is not of the best quality???
And where do you see them anyway??? or are you just speculating that this car might have them??? |

| Nice car. don't I remember this car on a trip thread? There was an Oval travelling with it, I think. It lost a headlight? There was a build thread where it was in a parking lot with big tires and lift on the front and small tire no lift on the back? If this is not that car there is another class 11 with a similar color/paint scheme. Does anyone remember the thread? |

I think the only difference between the bugpack and the empi coilovers are the box they come in, lol
The beam story..... It started out with me having an extra balljoint beam laying around. I took it to a "VW" guy and asked him to put some adjusters in. I went back and picked it up, it sat for a while til I started the raise of the car. I got the beam and started looking at it and the adjusters werent welded in straight or identically on the tubes, it also look like a blind man had welded them on. So I then decide to take it to a welding shop guy is a "VW guy also" I tell him exactly what I want (grind the weld, reset the adjusters, and weld them back on) wrote it down, made markings on the beam. He tells me to come back the next day, three weeks later I show up he didn’t do anything I asked!!! He just ran another bead of weld over the original one. At least he didn’t charge me for it, lol. So at this point im so frustrated with the beam fiasco has gone. I end up assembling that beam putting it in the car, and take out the old one. At this point I call HamburgerBrad to see if he has time to build me a beam, im there the next day at his house and my beam is installed that same day!!! A while later I take the car offroading for the first time (see threads above) trip is awesome, on the way home the steering feels a bit funny, tires rubbing a bit, I figure the car is out of alignment and the suspension is settled. I drive the car a week later driving down the street I go to switch lanes and the car drifts and I almost loose control of the car by over compensating. I get under it and don’t see nothing so I drove it home, crawled under it and didn't notice anything out of place. I then looked for worn parts I checked the tie rods and ball joints they were fine, the only thing i noticed was the grease seals ( stock style) were trashed (they were new ). So i went and bought some urethane one's. So the plan was to replace the old grease seals and make sure the grub screw were not loose and correctly aligned in their slots. I started with the passenger side and had no issue's, i then went to check the adjusters and i found that the lower adjusters set screw was gone!!! I poked around with a small allen wrench and discovered the screw had actually broke flush on the adjuster!!! So I tried a few different methods to fix it. I first tried using a reverse thread drill bit that didnt work, i then tried the easy out method that didn't work, i tried sliding the whole assembly out that didn't work, and then tried welding a bolt to the broken stud to turn it out which might of work if the welding wasn't so bad. I finally just set it where i wanted it and welded the adjuster to the beam in place, on the back side of the tube i cut some horizontal slits (2) the recessed into the adjuster and then welded over them as well. Took the car for a spin and it felt great have not had a problem since. |

I've been pondering what the next step on the beam is, i would like to take it out and try it on a trail before i go camping for four months in the desert. I thought about doing the standard Class11 cut and turn but im not sure if i would have fender clearance problems. You guys think i could get more clearance/lift in the rear with some more springplate adjustment with the stock cv's. The rear tires are 7x15's

Are you sure you want more clearance? Are you high-centering on anything now?
Going higher will just make the handling twitchier and invite CV problems.
For the front, why not use raised spindles?
I like this look, and I'm considering it for my '69 Urban Assault Volkswagen that is now about 50% patina, along with a beige Afrika Corps paint job something like this:

Thanks guys for the compliments. I do have raised spindles on the car right now. The rear tires are rubbing so i want to get a bit more lift, i would like the car to sit even.............
