I would definetly upgrade to type II or type IV CVs (Thing CVs) and notch your spring plates a little if you are going to raise the rear end up anymore on your Bug. If you can find some Thing axles, Stub axles, and Transmission flanges it is a direct bolt in. That will give you a little more articulation wile running over pot holes or large mounds in off road situations.
Good luck,

take the RGB's you took out from under the split and put on the baja :D
then it will sit level without the cambered /-\ look. i'm doing the same thing you are but i am keeping the bumpers and adding skid plates. your bug looks great. |

I thought I would post a couple pics of my Class 11 look a like
Its a 1974, I cut and turned the front beam 3/8" and set the rear up to cover half the bottom bolt hole on the spring plate cover, its very stiff and I only have KYB gr2 shocks in the front and KYB Gas Adjust in the rear. I want to find a set of shocks that have better rebound damping because when you hit a dip it works great but when you hit a bump, like a speed bump the front drops to fast and hits the stops.
next paint, I think I will paint it urban camo to go with my IHC scout which is painted desert camo

Bilstein's for the cut/turned front end would work well. That's what I have, and I guarantee you can go over speed bumps at 30mph and you'll never bottom out.

Update
Its been a while since i update this thread.......
The car got some tattoo's , lol (glass etching) I finally got around to parking the car to tear it down and take care of everything that needed some attention. I reindexed the rear springplates to get some more lift (the hibbard way) and got about 2 1/2- 3 inch's. Replaced all the mounts (front was broken) with Rhino mounts. Took care of some bad wiring. Pulled the engine because it developed some excessive endplay, its being replaced by something big. I also mocked up my external oil cooler for the new engine and figured out how all the oil lines will be run. All that is left is to wait for all my new gauges to show up in the mail, degrease and clean up, mount the tranny strap kit and put the new engine in.
Here is some pics:
Tattoo's
The baja on its own feet a little higher
Old engine out to get rebuilt for the bus

Yikes it's been a long time since i did an update on this pig   Rebuilt the motor and its actually back in the car. I would of taken it for a ride yesterday but i didn't have a 22mm wrench to tighten down the an fittings, lol. At one time i actually had the 2276 in it and drove it, then decided to pull it and put it in the bus. So here is a list of what i've done:
Tore apart and rebuilt motor with new cam CB2250
Replaced fan shroud because the one i was using had missing cooling vanes
Upgraded rubber oil lines to s/s with an fittings
Put gauges in dash to monitor engine
Added remote oil cooler
New Engine
My wife was away on vacation, and found out i built the motor in the house, lol she's still talking about it
When it had the other motor

that skull and pistons looks like the patch of the Outlaws MC. I would not care to be there if an Outlaw takes exception to this fact:

my advice is to ask for permission to use that. |
