I've heard some rumors saying that the Karmann Kabriolett badge no longer is beeing reproduced.
For those who need it - contact this firm: www.hotshop.as. They still got it lying around for about 35-40 USD. |

Well the rumors are that much closer to being considered true (unless someone else has a source - and if so - please provide details).
I have been watching ads on the Samba and other sources, as well as emailing people randomly for the past year hoping to find a Karmann Kabriolett badge - repro, old, NOS (if there is such an animal) or otherwise. When I saw this thread on 6/19/08, I emailed hotshop.as immediately and held my breath. Today, I received a response confirming they had sold the last 2 (this past weekend apparently) and further indicating the Karmann badges are "NLA" (no longer available).
Sigh.... The search continues. |

| Btw - your ad is not correct. The badge in 50/51 and I think 52 that was spelled with one T and not two. |

this is the problem when you make hi quality repros with few people interested in them ...
cost of the tooling is very high plus is not the same price to make 10 instead of 200
what is the most desirable badge ?? the one with 2 t or the one wit just 1 ??
i can make them , no problem
by last , the price is 85 , not 110 , sorry , my mistake

Wiggy is the right on the money. The split Kabriolet badge has one T and the oval Kabriolett has two T's
As a matter of fact...the badge has a dark blue backround...not black.

| As far as the number of units you will likely be able to sell, the one with two TT's by far, since there are more oval and late 50's verts around than splits. But I am sure there is some limited demand on the one T version. A guy was making them a few years ago, not sure about anymore. |

Just use a fresh Sharpie marker Rich, you'll be fine. Most people don't notice those kinds of details anyway....  |

x2. That means my screen name is all screwed up. Which is ironic, because when I registered on the Samba almost a year ago (after having lurked on here for 2 years before that), I researched the spelling in a number of books and other sources. I guess I should have just posted the question or emailed Todd or Wiggy.
So now I need to change my screen name AND locate a badge with 1 "T" not 2. |

Thats good advice!
Spend $20k on metal, $15k on paint, $7500 on an interior and god knows how much on the other stuff needed...then grab your marker and get rid of the other T. Love it.
JH, where were you when I needed to cut my budget down!! :D :D |

Here's an original from an early 51 vert and a repro that was available in BC by several sellers. How does the Argentinian repro look from behind?

Thanks for reminding me Todd. I remember when I was naive enough to think I could finish my car for $40k for EVERYTHING. Now I just don't think about it. Even so, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Once you are into the restoration, you ARE IN. |

Rich, IŽll check my records and if available IŽll send you the details of the fellow from whom I got the repro. Besides restoring enamel badges is not the end of the world.
