Thinking of buyin an oval window with an irs pan in CA. The title matches the body. Does it matter about the vin on the tunnel?
Thanks-

The vin is on the pan. That number should match the one on the title. Someone used the body number when it was titled if the matches the title.
VW didnt start putting the vin on the body until '68. It was a tag located above the left window defrost duct on the dash. It was the same as the vin on the pan. |

| My 53 had the motor as the VIN. Apparently when it was first sold back in '53 it was registered using the motor number as the VIN. The guy at DMV said that was pretty common. However, now it is registered with the correct number :D |

| Doesn't the aluminum tag under the hood have the vin number on it? |

Yes.

It shouldn't matter, if it is current on registration you don't need the vin verified and there shouldn't be a problem. If you need the vin verified it depends on if you get someone at dmv that knows what they're doing. I had to get a vin verified to get a title on a 56 body on a later pan. I just showed the lady the id tag under the hood and got it registered as a 56 with no problem. |
