Hello, I just bought my wife a new VW as she missed her 67' that her dad sold while she was in high school. It was a body off restoration with 1k on the motor. I believe it to be a single port 1500.

This is a great site. I have a lot to learn on these. Would anyone recommend a good book for the motor. I know nothing about thes air cooled ones.

Audio books are generally best for motors...comedy is best...

Welcome to the Samba! Looks really nice...You can get an absolute ton of information right here on the samba via the search function...Just type in what you're interested in and its probably been covered...

As for books - A bentley manual and a Jim Muir "How to keep your volkswagen alive" would be good...the Muir book can sometimes be found at Books a Million or B. Dalton bookstores...

Congratulations again...Hope to see more pics...

Welcome to the club

This is a great site with tons of info and knowledgeable people willing to share. Don't be afraid to ask!

Manual? - Defininitely the Bentley Manual. A bit pricey, but more than enough info you'll ever need. Covers everything from tip to tail.

BTW. Nice ride. Nice score! And it looks like you got one with the Wolfsburg Crest on the trunk lid. SWEET!

I have a 64 and I love the bumper style with the overriders.

(You really gonna let your wife drive it?)

Hey, cool car your wife now has!! I was looking through your pictures, as I have a '62 as well that I re-did. It looks like the rear body mount bolts are missing by your battery. Also, are you sure it's a '62? it has the earlier taillights, and also a hood with the earlier style hood prop whereas the '62's had spring-hinges on the hood. And, mind you, i'm no expert, but does anyone know if with the radio antenna if that was installed on the drivers/passenger side as an option? Mine is on the drivers side, while this one is on the passenger side with a dual mount. Something you may need to keep an eye on is the front drivers quarter as it looks like it was cut out at one time, maybe it was in an accident and that's how it got that earlier style hood prop in there.. Don't take me as dogging you on your new purchase--I personally think that your cars color is almost as cool as my Ruby Red!!! Great looking car!

Another nice find in Washington State. :D

Man, hemifalcon, how did you get all that with those little pics? I tried bigger pics but they were too big. They are pics that the seller took. The car is very clean. It might be pieced with different year parts. I do not know what was original for that year. The title says its a 62' I have a lot to learn. Ill check into the body bolts. One thing is the battery is not mounted(unsafe!) how were they done? I bought a new Optima to go in.

Your not dogging. I like the constructive critism!

Very nice bug!! Nice Color!! :D

Beautiful car. Good luck with it. I second the previous comments that certain body details belong to an earlier model than a '62. Also that those body bolts are missing. But your wife's off to a great start!

H-Falcon has super Kraut-vision. On some browsers, clicking on the picture took you to another website where full-size pics reside.

I have far from the 'super-kraut' vision as was cited earlier.. I wish I did.. If that battery if still 6 volt would be held down by a metal strap with a sinch buckle that would create tension in the strap, and a plastic cover for the top of the batttery to keep the seat springs from contacting the battery posts.. (my browser does let me view larger images by the way.. :-P )
I dig the car--and i would have most likely not noticed any of that stuff had it not been for the 2.5 years spent on/in/under my own!! Dig the car, take good care of her, and she'll take good care of you!! I put an Optima in mine, not the best way of doing it, but i just loosened up the rear strap bolt, then drilled out the spot welds on the strap to make it longer, and put allen head button screws through the spot weld screws when it was shortened.. I kept the optima storage tray on top of the battery to protect the posts.. You can just get one with side posts and you'll be golden!! Good luck!
