as with painting anything, i would assume you need to sand it a bit to get the powdercoat to stick, or you just bead blast it all of since it is being powdercoated.. i bead blasting sum og empi 5 spokes tomarrow and then they're being sent to be powdercoated..so yea i would think so

I powder coated over cad plating on a few parts like my camber compensator and solid trans mount with out any prep other than cleaning and scuffing the parts up with a green 3M pad. After 3 years of living below a hot engine, and getting pummeled by road grime, the powder coating is holding up great.

If you media blast the part first the powder coating will adhere better. if you are going to plate the part it will have a dull finish. You need to polish it up a bit for the plating to be bright.

I powdercoat over cad plate all the time, you do need to blast the surface, if you do zero prep, you will get chipping due to poor adhesion.
