Agree 100%. Normally a car goes into the rail to scrub off speed. It's 'odd' that it continued straight as an arrow down the track. It was a fluke that it happened. It's a terrible tragidy, but 1000' racing isn't going to change much IMHO.

Well, as has already been discussed, it is possible to implement a barrier system that would have prevented this, but it appears that the NHRA is more interested in the appearance of "doing something" than in actually improving safety.

Perhaps the NHRA is looking at what happened to the audience revenues of NASCAR after the publicity of Dale Earnhart dying.
