Quote: i'm actually going to try and re sell it with the motor and tranny to some one who wants a cheap bus to cruise in. trying to recoupe

Yes, please, do that. You bus doesn't need a parts bus to be saved. Your bus only need a few new parts (not used) for safety and reliability, and a few used that can be found on Thesamba or elsewhere to complete your interior. Don't destroy that complete and solid bus. Let someone restore it. Make money from this one and invest in your green one. Friendly advice.

Man, I'm looking for a cheap bus to run in! Unfortunately, you're so far away, I'd spend more on getting the bus here than I would buying it!

I'm not sure about the interchangability of those tops. I'll try to find the comparison of the tops in an hour or so.

I think with the early buses like you have, both use the sunroof as an opening. This would mean, in theory at least, that you should be able to put the rivi top on your westy.

As far as using the bed, I doubt it will fit in your westy. I think that the front hinged ones have less roof space (for support) than the rear ones. Man, I could be wrong though. There was a hole thread about continental beds in early westies, I'll see if I could find it.

I must say I am pretty impressed with how far you have come. It's nice to see someone with "the vision". I have friends that want to roll a bus, but every time a find them a good buy, they comment on how beat it is and how it's not running, etc. I get tired of that attitude pretty quickly. Anyways, nice job so far.

man-o-man, thanks guys! i kinda feel the same way i've been plugging away on this guy for like a year now and it has become a source of pride for me, this is the first time i ever attempted anything like this and am really quite proud of myself, having never really been a car guy or anything.
I'm not sure if it's the ease of working on a veedub or what but i'm really happy with it and still have more to do, i now know i'll be trying again on another bus and this time with a bit more precision, this has totally proven to me when it come to working on these things skill is not really a determining factor as much as effort and that may be the reason why we don't see as many hippies rolling these things anymore, effort means to much work for most. so yeah let me just say thanks again it really means a lot to receive a few complements on my work and EFFORT haha, keep the dream alive fella's one day when you walk out to your ride it'll just bring a smile to your face and then it's all down hill from there!

this weekend: another trip to leavenworth for some rock climbing and star gazing through some massive telescope my friend has! rock on!

What is that stuff you used for the headliner on the sides with the wilderness scene? I might have to steal that idea from you. The bus looks good btw.

theizzardking Fri May 15, 2009 4:36 pm

haha that's some wall paper trim like you would use in the bathroom or something it was applied with a wet sponge, well was meant to be i just used the staple gun

this is really my practice bus am def. going to get another one and do it with a little more precision

it could be made to look a lot nicer than that!

Thats a beautiful bus you have. How's your paint job holding out? For a do it yourself paint job, it looks really good.

hey thanks! i thought i would ad some more on here to celebrate my buses one year anniversary with me, that said a year later the paint job is holding up nicely, i dropped the pop top on the side of my bus and chipped a bunch of the paint off but after another coat it looked great again.
