That will work well, but be careful of the enamel finish. If you go too far the drum will start rusting the first time you leave damp clothes in it.
Lacquer thinner doesn't even begin to touch that baked on finish. I tried goo gone and some other mild stuff before the thinner. |

| I don't know what you are complaining about. If the pen made it to the dryer, it probably went through the washing machine first, so at least it was CLEAN ink. |

| Wet the stains with brake cleaner and turn the dryer to 60 minutes. After you get in and have a buddy turn the dryer on, use a toothbrush to loosen the stain. You may experience a little light-headiness ( that's normal) but power through it for the whole cycle. |

| I did the same thing once, and I just used a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol (90% I believe) and got all of it out after some scrubbing... |

Alcohol, or what drycleaners call a Volatile Dry Solvent, is the first solvent to use in removing ball point pen ink. If you applied water first, forget it. If it's on a colored fabric, test a small area first, like on an inside seam, to check for color fastness. The alcohol should flush out most of the stain. (Working on a fabric, put the stained area over a clean white cotton cloth or towel scrap to absorb the ink.)
Next, a drycleaner would use a professional product, Oily Type Paint & Grease Remover. I've never done this, but I'd try something like baby oil or glycerin for a lubricant to help release the ink dye from the fabric. Work it in with your fingernail. Take care not to abrade a delicate fabric - work your nail in the direction of the yarns. Flush with more alcohol. Do this as long as ink is released.
When no more ink is being released into the clean, white towel, it is time to begin working on the wet side; using water and a mild detergent. Bleaching is the final step if any stain remains, but I don't suggest anyone try this at home unless you test and are willing to sacrifice the garment.
Do the alcohol flush and take it straight to your drycleaner. Tell them what you've done.
Water will tend to set ball point pen ink. Heat will tend to set any stain. |

Whiteboard cleaner is made to dissolve permanent ink and leave enamel intact:
Available at office product stores. Also good for removing graffiti. I don't know how well it will work on cloth, though. |
