Well the owner of the yellow 73 beetle I asked you all about the other night has finally sent me some pics.
Not the pics I wanted but the person actually looking after the sale of the car took the pics and doesn`t know a beetle from a bag of hammers.
oh well.
have a peek and tell me what you think.......no, really tell me what you think.
notice the black vent window frames.

Rogeroo -

This VW was originally light blue (looks like Marina Blue).

Can you get any pictures of the trunk?

Hi there, yes, I can see that little sliver of blue back there in the engine compartment as well.
I have asked for more pics and the trunk was on the list of requests/
I`ll get them posted just as soon as they come in.
Thanks/
Roger

You say this is a 1973. That surely doesn't look like a 73 dash and the engine isn't a 73 either.

Still has the cover on the advanced diagnosis socket.

If it is an import model as suspected, throw out the US model knowledge you have. We're not sure what this car is...

He also said it was an Egyptian Beetle. Perrsonally, I like the looks of it. It's got the newer look with some older features. If it's a solid car I'd take it.

AHH, the confusion begins. :D
Did you happen to follow the thread the other day when I posted the first couple of pics of this car?
Turns out its a euro spec beetle with a 1200 cc engine and many other offside little tidbits.
No fresh air, no grill on hood for fresh air, no grill on rear engine deck...etc,
i`m wondering how the frigg one would ever order parts for this unit?
The car is in fact a 1973 according to the sticker on the door post and the ownership...

Hrmm

New looking fuel pump with wrong type fuel line, horn button on dash not
the best. Hood don't look to fit right.

Yeah, I also think its a cool little twerp of a beetle.
I think I can get it for less than originally mentioned.
But how the dickens would you order parts for it?
Not only that, every single person who knows anything about beetles will comment on the car when they see it to the tune of, "look at that car, what a mixmatch of years on that thing"

You just need to do some homework before buying parts... really not much different than what most of us go through. Most bugs on the road are incorrect in one way or another. Once you get it, figure out exactly what it has, you will be all set.

It's YOUR car! Doesn't matter what others say. At shows, make a sign displaying it's import status. Most of us "fat chick" owners are redheaded stepchildren to "vintage" owners anyway. If you like it, thats all that matters.

I'd drive it...

edit... I've never really understood that saying. Redheads are hot :)

I hear you but would I order tail lights for a 73 or signal lights for a 73 or do I order them for a year which has the same lights as are this car now?
Do you know what I mean?

You would need to figure out what year the parts you are looking at would be. The tails look like '71-72, but those were all red/clear. Turn signals '64-'67? It could be tough, but you can get stuff that would work. Bulbs are easy, just get what is in there. Most bulbs are universal as long as they are used in the same application (turn, brake, running...)

All comes down to how much you like it. And how solid it truly is. I can see blue in the trunk too. The respray could have been better but carpet would cover the offending areas.

Rogeroo Wed Jun 25, 2008 7:17 pm

to be honest, if I was to purchase the car, I would live with the few little blue areas til a repaint would be in order.
I can see they must have taken the hood off to paint as I can see the bolt heads on the hood are blue////
