I've been working on my dads 78 vw transporter bus with a conversion to a 1600cc dual port engine. I removed the engine since it was sitting for a long time and wanted to maintenance it before i started it up. Well I have purchased cheap primer and painted the doghouse and tins with it. I used regular rustoleum black on the doghouse shroud, rear engine tin with risers and breast plate only. I figured they dont get too hot. My question is should I buy high temp for the port tins and engine or will regular rustoleum work. I was thinking of painting engine body aluminum/silver and tins black as shroud. Any advice will help. Thanks.

I have used Rustoleum Hammer finish on the tins and they help up just fine.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to go with the high temp on the engine just to be safe. Preparation is quite important. Clean up everything as best you can then degrease everything. Brake cleaner works great. It will get all the grease and grime off and will not leave a residue.
