| Howdy Samba Gods - Please can you tell me how to go about identifying an orginal BRM from a replica, as I am trying to establish the origin of a set that have. Any wise words or info would be very much appreciated. Shu1 |

Well the first obvious way to know if you have a REAL BRM is the weight of the rim. The original's are made of Magnesium. Second would be if if it's chrome or just polished as the real's ones are NEVER chrome just polished the repop's are ALWAY's chromed. Also if you look in the middle of the spokes there are 6 cast dot's that can be barely seen on them. The ones pictured are in my collection of rim's and they are all real ones. Good Luck if they are I hope that you get a SMOK'IN deal on them :D

The easiest way to tell is to look at the valve area - on a real one the area round the hole is a different shape to a repro. haven't got a pic to hand, but the difference is very noticeable. You can just make out the shading on the left hand wheel of Johnnys.
Also, the repros are machine turned, not hand polished. If you can see machining marks, it'll be repro. |
