Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a 1956 Convertible from my brother in-law; he purchased the car from the original owner about twelve years ago.
But Im very confused regarding the Vehicle I.D. Number for this vehicle. If anyone out there is familiar with Vin. Numbers, please let me know what year of a vehicle this is.
Also can anyone tell me what the vehicle type bellow indicates.
Here are the numbers that appear on the vehicle and on the frame of the vehicle.
Vehicle ID Number: 1341750
Vehicle Type: VW 1/15
There is another number right underneath the information plate, but this number is engraved right on the body of the vehicle.
33 338
Thanks. |

Looking at the chassis date here:

Looks like a March of '52 frame...

33 338
Thanks,

This looks like a Sept of '52 Body.
Question: If you look at the vin plate in the upper right hand box, is it the same as the number under the back seat on the frame?

| To me the Vin. number looks like an engine number, because I notice other convetibles their Vin. numbers start with a 1-000000. So now i'm very confuse as to what year this vehicle is. |

A VIN with 1-x0x0x0 just shows the car in question was made after the Millionth mark. So it must be a 1956-later car, as the Milionth Beetle was manufactured in Aug 1955. |

http://www.historicvws.abelgratis.com/technical/age_finder/age.html I think you made a mistake and looked under the engine number column and not the chassis number column its definately a 1st or 2nd week of November 1956 built car and as far as the stamped body number every early convertible I have seen are stamped with a 15-###### , has the front clip been replaced ? |

I have once again checked all the numbers on this Convertible.
The vehicle identification number that appears in the upper right hand box of the Vin. Plate; is the same number that appears under the back seat on the frame: 1341750
Also under the vehicle type, what does this indicate: VW 1/15
I have also rechecked the large numbers that are stamped right below the Vin. Plate to the body of the convertible they are:
33 338 (No other numbers before or after).
Per the original owner, the car has never been in any accident nor has he ever replaced any bpdy parts. The car is very solid as it has always been garaged.
Thanks. |
