Im looking for a GOOD seals to my T3..
I read that brazilians are crap
DDB are great ..but I prefer the original style (seals on the door).Sadly german seals are incredible expensive (150 EACH!!!..but Im thinking to spend almost 150..for a pair)...
Can I find a good quality reproduction of german seals?.. |

| Nope. Sorry to say what you see is what's available, and the german seals are also reproduction seals. I've got a set of them in my 65 Notch that are holding up real good for being 7 years old. Back when I got them, they were 125 each, so a little increase in price over 7 years isn't too bad. By the way, that's double of what I paid in 1990 for t-3 door seals. |

I was looking at my original seal on my door, and was thinking that you could possibly use a generic door seal kit for different type of vehicle that also uses a glued on type seal.
Anyone ever try this? I know it's not a vw part, but if you're not doing a full on resto, it may be the easier and more price efficient way of going around it.
Thoughts? |

I used generic, square profiled seals from a flaps on my squareback doors. I believe it was 5/8" wide. I just glued it along the same path as the original seal with 3M weatherstrip adhesive. It took more than one roll to do a door so there are a couple of seams but they have not been a problem.
Some parts of the seal will be too thick but they will eventually compress.
I installed them about 5 years ago and they have never leaked. So they seem to last at least 5,000 times longer than brazilian seals. Good enough for me. |

Ya, I already have a parts supply store looking for weather stripping/door seal similiar to the profile of the original (gave em a chunk that was going to scrap anyways)
I'll make sure I post anything I find worthwhile. |

| About 5 years ago I used some good used 77 Chevy Nova door seals to replace the missing door seals on my 69 Square. They've held up well, and I still talk/see the guy who bought the car from me (I also see the car every now and then). About a year later (4 years ago), my dad bought a set of the same seals (only new from Steele rubber products) for use in his 73 Fastback (cost was about $80 for the pair). They've also held up well. You have to trim about a 1/2 inch across the top of the door, but other than that they fit like they were made for a t-3. 8) |
