I have a vdo fuel guage and sender (tube type) that I want to put in my 56. How do I tell if they are working before I install them? I have grounded the guage, gave it 6v, and hooked it to the sender. The guage went to full and stayed there. There was no change when moving the sender. I don't know if one is bad, which one, or did I do it wrong?
Thanks |

| If the gauge works when power applied, it should be good. Try putting an ohm meter on the sender and working it. It should show variable resistance. |

Thanks, I put it on the ohm meter and got variable resistance as the float moved up and down. How should it be hooked up? Maybe I do not have it wired correctly. I have 3 wires? 6v, ground and one from the sender?
Thanks |

Thanks for the help. I think I got it figured out. The "G" on the gauge got me thinking ground but then it had the ground symbol as well on the third terminal. I looked online and found that VDO uses "S" or "G" for the sender terminal. I think when I hook it up correctly it will work.
Thanks for your help. |

Thanks. That is exactly what I was looking for. Now, anyone have a sending unit they would like to sell? When I took mine apart to inspect it the resistance filament broke and now it is pretty clear what the problem is.
I am posting a want add for a sending unit.
Thanks for all of the help. |

| I am on the hunt for one of these myself. I have only seen one of these particular fuel senders for sale in the past two years. |
