I am looking for any advice from weathered VW Travelers. I just bought a 1975 Transporter pick up and was looking for any advice you may have for me on what to look for and be carful of when driving. Any kind of signs of trouble or anything at all. I just bought it in Romania and will be heading to Spain, a long way and what can I do to ensure performance? Any advice will help, thanks,
Pattrick

A properly tuned engine means a PROPERLY TUNED ENGINE.
Not just you and your buddies and a sixpack cleaning the sparkplugs.

Keep the speed down, 62 mph is fine.
Check your oil often.
Drive when it's cool, if at all possible.
Check your oil often.
Have a spare fan belt, a few quarts of oil & whatever you need to change a tire.
Bring along a AAA card and a Visa card.
Check your oil often.

Let me correct that post: 100 kph is fine. Bring along whatever auto club membership card that offers reciprocal privilages in other countries, such as free towing. Bring along a couple of litres of oil.

(sorry, I didn't notice that you were in Europe)
