I was thinking, would a 'How to' section be helpful? It would definitely help people new to AC VW's maintain them properly and keep from posting the simple "how do I......?" questions.

Stuff like:
'How to'- Oil change
'How to'- Adjust valves
'How to'- Set timing

etc...

It was just a thought, what does everyone else think? :)

How do I buy a Bentley manual?

The Sage Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:06 pm

I propose a "How do I use the forums ?" section...

Oh wait what's this?

Maybe we need a "How do I read ?" section first?

It's not a bad idea to make it easier to find but almost every topic can be found using a search, in the FAQ at the top of a given section, or in your local repair manual.

Yeah, sure there is always the search. But most newbs don't really know how to use it properly, and some don't have a manual...

It was just an idea. :?

The greatest help would be when you see a thread that is very good is to PM me or a moderator for that section to get it added to the FAQ for that section.

Excuse any rude comments above.

This is in the Performance/Engines/Racing - Index to tech articles - lots of articles.

EverettB wrote: Ok, now this thread is a sticky so start posting links to the best threads that have answers to the most common questions and answers and it will be made into a new Performance FAQ sticky for this section.

"LUKE... use the SEARCH" (sorry... just had to)

The Sage Mon Jun 30, 2008 7:19 pm

 Guilty

It isn't the fastest easiest thing to do a search sometimes, but every answer about VW's exists here, amazingly so.

Very nice Glenn.

The Bus FAQ is a nice example too. Thanks to Kommercial and me.

In some of the forums, there are so many stickies that it seems to take away from the amount of real estate taken from current threads. Is it possible, on this BBS software, to create sub-forums? On another board I frequent, there are subforums for a few particular forums to further subdivide areas of interest, and it helps keep the main page for that forum from being to "busy". Maybe it would help if the FAQs and stickies where part of a sub-forum for each forum. Just a thought.

There is a sub-forum add-on but I have not investigated it and whether it would be feasible here.

I find it more beneficial to have a single FAQ posting rather than a zillion Stickies but I know it can depend on the particular Forum.

That's an excellent example of how (no pun intended) a how-to thread should be written. A similar thread for the Late Model/Super forum would be welcome.
