has anyone tried a variety of oil coolers?
there are a few different kinds of oil coolers that would fit a square that supposedly make things cooler than the original oil coolers.
i just got a '70 squareback with a newer rebuilt 1641cc dual carb engine and need to replace the oil cooler and in looking around at the different ones here and there, i think it might be good to have something that would keep the hind quarters cooler because it gets pretty hot back there.
just wondering if i could get different opinions on it. |

| I have the stock oil cooler in place on my dual port 1641cc in my '66 squareback. I drive it daily & have put about 7500 miles on the engine. |

ok, so either one will keep it going quite a while?
i was looking at the "earl's temp-a-cure oil filters" and a few other ones with fans, though those are a bit too pricey.
has anyone had any experience with those? |

| from what i'm told, when the 1641cc dual carb was put in, they used an older beat up oil cooler. they put in new seals, but it still leaks pretty good. |

| Probably has the wrong seals. Common on T-3's |

| I installed a later stock T3 oil cooler on my 2110. The one with the bigger passes. I have no issues driving that thing and it does not over heat. Per my VDO gauge it consistantly runs between 180-200F. It ran a little "hot" when the engine was being broken in, but now...no issues. |

check the seals and if they are correct, look for a good used Type 3 cooler or even a Type 4 (which requires minor modification of the tin)... |

I have good used stock coolers.
And I bet it probably has the wrong seals, and does not have the foam filler piece. That foam on top the cooler is important to keep the cooling air from bypassing.
Even Dave's engine had the wrong seals when I took took it off. |

Most definately agree. I used black self stick foam weather stripping 1/2" thick. I compressed nicely under the tin. |
