What is the point of these rubber door stoppers on the passenger side of buses? they're completely useless from what I've seen... The door is incapable of moving far enough to hit them; the hinge can't go that far before it hits the body...
Is there any real purpose to them???

| Extra protection in case of a wind gust? I have seen some doors touching. Maybe you have super cherry hinges. |

The hinges are completely capable of letting the door swing right up against the body, so without the rubber stoppers metal smacks metal. (ow!)
Often there are dimples where the rubber bumpers mount, from the doors swinging and smacking with the rubber bumpers multiple times over the decades.
doors all the way open:
It also keeps the doors handles from smacking. |

| There is something wrong if your doors don't open enough for the bumpers to touch. |

| I have real tight hinges on my '62, and my doors open all the way. Clara's right, they keep metal from hitting metal and handles from hitting too. |

AND busting the popout window latches if the windows are open and the door swings out all the way! #-o |

Speaking of busted, who's that in the first pic?????
I'd say your hinges are rusted solid if they are hitting the body when you open them. Seems like they'd have ripped free from the pillars by now. |

Are those the straps on the lower hinges? If so, yeah, I have those on. I think they're what's preventing my doors from hitting the body.
My body guy took off the stoppers because the door didn't get to where they could touch... I suppose it'd be a good idea to have them on there, though... |

| I had to put straps on because the bumpers did NOT stop the door from hitting. |
