View original topic: Brake fluid reservoir for dual piston master cylinder

Hi all,

About 12 years ago I put disc brakes on the front of my oval, as well as a '68 transaxle with stock drum brakes on the rear. I used a dual piston master cylinder ('71 Karmann Ghia I believe). I was able to scrounge a plastic fluid reservoir from a mid 1980's Isuzu and mount it in the stock location (with a home-made bracket) by filing the original hole into a slightly oblong shape to get the hoses through. It has worked fine for years but it's ugly, plus the setup is so tall that the spare tire rubs on it. After many years of being an unfinished back-burner project car/driver, I want to take the next step and make it pretty, preferably without cutting any new holes. What are you dual m/c guys using for a fluid reservoir on your ovals? Were you able to mount it in the stock location without cutting the original metal?

Any suggestions and photos would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,

the best way i have found is to use a volvo reservoir that fits right on top of the dual circuit master cylinder. i have this on my 54 oval and plan on doing the same in my 53. the cool thing is you can paint the original resevoir all nice and the area around it and not have to worry about spilling brake fluid and ruining the paint. here is a thread with some pics of what i am talking about.

thats what i used volvo resevior and then kept the stock one in place with a line that drains into the volvo one.
pretty simple to do and functional

You can get a new one at this site for about $25.00 http://www.volvopartsonly.com

This is on my Ghia but the setup is the same as your oval, it is really simple to do.
