Greetings Oval lovers. Just thought I'd share a few latest pics with you of my 1956 RHD Oval Ragtop resto. After some extensive metalwork restoration the car has just been chemically dipped, followed by some emmersive e-coating:

Hello-
Fantastic!
Do you mind if I ask how much it cost, and what type of facility performs this kind of work?
Thanks,
Paul |

That is some amazing looking work!
edit: I just noticed that you're in the UK, so no luck for me getting the same level of strip down/priming here in the states. |

| I had my 57 vert dipped in Fl about 5 years ago, Same process and it ran about $1300 then. I highly recomend it if you are going full resto. My car had about 6 coats of paint on it. It came back bare metal! saved me alot of time and I also had the tank, top frame and misc parts done at the same time for the same price. |

| I'd have the hood, decklid, and fenders done and roll it just like that! |

So was there any warranty or indication of its rust proofing abilities?

Sweet! I can't wait 'till my oval project gets to that stage!
For those of us in the U.S. there is a place in Arlington, Texas (between Fort Worth and Dallas) that does this kind of work. It's called Metal Rehab... www.metalrehab.com. I haven't used their services yet but I did tour their facility and saw several cars in various stages of the process. Very cool. My dad is planning to have his '37 Chevy sedan dipped there. I think they estimated his car at around $2500 for the body, doors, and trunklid, including the epoxy primer coating afterwards. I have to assume a smaller car like a bug would be cheaper.

| Thanks for the comments guys. Obviously the weather in the UK isn't quite as good as in California and I'd say that rust prevention is a major consideration for any resto here. Putting as much effort into getting the metalwork right as has been done means you want it to last. The cost to have the car chemically taken back to bare metal and then electrophoretically primed so it gets everywhere was about Ģ1800 (about $3500). It sounds a lot but I don't think its worth cutting corners and think that it'll pay for itself in the many years of having a rust-free car. The real attraction for me was having the electro-primer bonded to the metal, meaning it coats places like the insides of the heater channels where a painter could never cover. Apparently, the place that did my car is the only one in Europe that will dip and electro-prime. But I'm sure that you guys in the US will have places that would do it. |

that is the color on my new project(under the black).... I got the car for free if I just took it of the property :D
Car looks really bad on the picture, but itīs almost rustfree... sure, it has lost some parts over the year but it has been in a barn for over 30 years...and it was like I said for free :D
Ultramaroon is not common color in Sweden. is it in USA?

Here in the UK there have been a few very (very) nice Ultramaroon's showcased in the magazines recently. I wouldn't call it a common colour though. |
