I just got off the phone with N.H.Speedometer, they want at the least $400.00 to restore my 1956 trip speedo type 1 (new glass, redo the face and new clear pointer included) good deal or way to much?
thanks for any input.

Ryan Ousley here in Southern California is the best when it comes to restoring speedometers. In the past he has restored two of my speedometers, one of them being a Tripspeed. He provides the best service & prices.. (951) 833-2563.

IMO it looked cheap and I redid it. But some people could care less about that detail. He has good service.

NHS - you get what you pay for...

Indeed you get what you pay for. $400 is usually the flat rate starting point anytime a shop has to crack open any gauge, so that price for what you get at class shop seems to be fair. You might save some $ though with someone else who does it on the side with less overhead perhaps. I'd also ask about turn around time since the full time shops tend to turn stuff sometimes quicker.

I decided to do it myself and save some money to use elsewhere on the vert. Not perfict but its ok, still need to get the trip knob chromed. Later on ill send the trip out for full resto. Thank you John (Johnshenry)

Looks great Dave! Glad to have helped.

Restoring speedos really isn't that hard. Re-screening the face is the only complex and expensive part, but good used faces can be found. I pick up 80mph speedos all the time for $10 or so, many have good faces.

$400 is not worth it IMO, with the availability of good faces out there...
