Once upon a time I had a horn button, it wasn't attached to anything (sometimes I pretended it shot electricity out of the front symbol to punish people who wouldn't let me merge...I digress...), but I had one. Then, I didn't (the same time I suddenly didn't have a front symbol).

I'm replacing a lot of stuff on my van and realized that putting a horn on it isn't that expensive. The sticky part has been the button. I've found buttons for every VW except my bus.

Was my little castle button actually a bug button put in the middle of the wheel for the heck of it? Would the button for a beetle be the same, can I just buy one of those and be alright? Or are the bus horn buttons different and made of unobtainium?

The 'factory correct' ship sailed on my bus when a previous owner cut through the front seat backing to make it a 'walk through' (kind of) so I'm not worried about it being 100% correct, just aesthetically okay and functional.

It's a '67, if that makes a difference, but I haven't seen horn buttons for any bus at all so far.

Thanks. Sorry for all the questions.

the little castle sounds like the crest of wolfsburg where buses were made back in the day, yours was probably made in hannover but it would still have a wolfsburg button. you can get repro ones for quite a bit but they should be easy to find, you can get plain ones quite easily and quite cheaply or you could get a real one with a crest for quite a lot, but they are all fairly easy to find, you will just pay more for some than others. a NOS one with a crest would be big bucks I would of thought.

also, no its a button made specifically for bus steering wheels as far as I know.

the horn buton you are looking for is not bus specific, a beetle would have the same button 56-59.
the button with the castle came originally on deluxe buses/beetles.
looks like you have a standard, so the regular button would have come on your bus og.

I may have an extra one with the crest. It will be Friday before I can look. Let me know if you still need one.

Okay, so what it seems like is I can go ahead and buy a Wolfsburg button meant for a bug and it will fit on my bus (like I said, she'll never be 'correct', not since the 'cutting,' and lets face it, the crested button is cooler). Is that right?

Follow up-is there a way to tell what she was born as? I don't think she was originally a camper, I think the last owner pieced her together from some fallen buses (no one has been able to actually locate the VIN) I originally thought that it couldn't have started life as a camper because I thought all campers were walk throughs, but after going through the camper thread it seems like that's not the case. It also seems like it might be an American conversion and not a Westy. Maybe a Westy. It's hard to tell since the major difference was the cooler that was also stolen a long time ago.

Follow up to the follow up, is there a place to get camper bits, or is that a swap meet thing?

I have one on the registration, but haven't found one on the bus itself.

Oh no, my friend, I believe it is in fact you who have a PM...

And I've found a passably cheap (okay, expensive, but not as expensive as originally thought) horn button, thanks all for helping me out. There are certainly more questions to come.
