hi guys.

I am restoring my oval steering wheel and before starting i read some info on the net. my problem is that i have a lot of small cracks next to each other what do you suggest? do i fill the small cracks with epoxy or i have to go deep(sanding) on every crack and than fill it?

any info is appreciated

Bob at Sun Motors did mine, just reinstalled, beautiful, start with filling, don't deep sand.

Use a Dremel tool with a small cut-off wheel attachment. To get the best results, you'll want to open up those hairline cracks to allow the epoxy to get a good hold

On the bigger cracks to help prevent future re-appearance you should also consider drilling in a small hole at each end of the crack, this acts as a stress relief so any remaiining forces within the crack can be contained. Once a larger crack appears that means there is continuous tension in that area so you want to stop it right there from spreading, good luck.

There is an article on steering wheel resto at my site thebugshop.org. POR Epoxy putty works well, but the process is very tedious, especially if the cracks go into the fine ribbed part of the wheel...
