i'm having some thoughts, and one thing that always confuses me is offsets when it comes to wheels.
here is the sceneraio....
74 super beetle
+4" wider rear fenders
+3" wider front fenders
will be lowered
i want the tires/wheels inside fenderlips(not necessarily tucked though)
years ago when it was on the road, I used to have +3" wider CCC front & rear fenders, w/ 15x10 and 295/50 rubber (13x6's or 8's up front) . the sidewalls rubbed the rear fenderlips so i had to add helper springs to raise the rear up.
I really want to use a more modern wheel, than the chrome modulars on the car now. and i'm not opposed to going to a larger diameter, 16, 17 etc... if necessary. as well as a more modern wheel... a lower profile tire as well would be in order. i'm kind of going for a combination of looks... part cal look, part street rod, part german look... not really ONE particular genre or style....
in a nutshell... what offset wheel should i be looking for? is there a maximum amount of backspacing that i can run front and rear? the one particular wheel i am looking at, has available....
- 16x 9.5 or 17 x 11 for the rear
- 16x 7 or 17 x 8 for the fronts
with the offset being custom as i need to work with. bolt pattern is not an issue, i will make the pattern work around whichever wheels i decide to go with.
car in it's current state....
thanks.

| It all depends upon what suspension mods you go with. If the wheel size can be had in any custom offset, then get the suspension how you think you would want it and using either a stock wheel with known offset, order how you want the tuck or take it to a tire/wheel shop and have them measure the needed offset. Everything you do will have an effect on what wheel will fit. 295 tires are 5 1/2 inches wider than stock so if thats where you are going you will get rubbing. |
