In Paris, Pigalle is the red light district, so I am assuming it means red interior, and maybe a hooker or two along for the ride  |

Teak:
A grayish yellowish brown or grayish to moderate brown.
Pigalle:
I have also heard it refers to the red-light district in Paris.

Pee- Gall- Uh, said quickly, accent on second syllable. An August- Dec. 1965 built Type 3 in black or pearl white with an all- scarlet interior including dash pad, armrests, shift boot, column, wheel, etc. Teak is the same thing but with a teak brown interior.
There are a couple other oddball Pigalle combos on the Type 34. |

| So a pigalle must have a red dash also and be a '65 only. My '67 notch has red interior and a black dash. this is a pigalle' no |

No, your 67 is not a pigalle. It was early production 66 that had the special interiors.
I think VW did it to promote the introduction of the T-3 into USA sales, but they carried it through the whole line. Although I don't think I have seen a pigalle Notch.
Fastbacks, Squarbacks, and Ghias. |

Little french lesson... :)
If a word ends in a letter "e" then that means you pronounce the last constinant (in this case "l") but not the "e" itself.
Hence Bagette = bag-et and Pigalle = Pig-al.
A word finishing without an "e" say Paris is pronounced without the last constanant as Pari or more correctly Pa-ree (you'd say "Gay Pa-ree" wouldn't you?)
Only if the word ends with an accented e (é) then is the e actually pronounced - like "café".
However French is a language with 200 rules and 200 exceptions to them, so it may not work in every case - it does in this one however.
I lived in Paris for a few years, Pigalle is a district to the north of the city renowned for being a bit seedy in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
Although it retains some of it's original charm, now it is very commercial and mainly popular only with tourists and pick-pockets
It's also home to the Moulin Rouge (yes, of the nicole kidman film fame) which translates as the Red Windmill. I believe this is the referance VW referes to with this colour name rather than it being a red light district - which it never really was as such.
Teak is a kind of hardwood often used in ship decks and outdoor applications. It's not hard to see that choice as it is brown.
And so ends todays lesson... |

Right, but since the cars are German it might be better to mispronounce Pigalle the German way (which would be more like Pee-gall-uh, as Tram pointed out).
After all, we here say Pear-iss, not Par-ee. |

Exactly my point. Germans, who actually built the cars, say "pee- GALL- uh".
Nous parlons pas la Francais en Allemagne. |

The Samba's definition of pigalle:
"Red upholstery and interior color. Often used as a term to refer to the limited production all-red interior (seats, dashboard, carpet, and so forth) used on 1966 Type 3s and Karmann Ghias. In Type 3s, it was available as an option on Black and Pearl White vehicles up to Chassis No. 316 140 226. The term Pigalle refers to the red-light district in Paris."

Question: Is there a 1966 Type 3 Notchback with pigalle interior? |
