Now I can see why it's so expensive.

That's pretty neat, I've seen it before but not detailed photos like that.

anyone wanna try finding some curved pieces the right color and making it a little bit more rounded, like an actual VW?

Not sure the history behind this, but I saw this on the side of a lego box in the store this weekend. Pretty cool. Anyone know anything about it...

Picture is bad as it is from my phone...

I love what they have done with this kit-

I have always been a bit of a critic of lego dumbing down thier kits by making big moulded pieces to get the shapes they were looking for-

This does seem to do away with that habit- It is a shame though that the most accurate bits of the whole kit are the speedo, engine and Wolfsburg number plate!

I would love to own one though!

You did not buy it?

It was on the side of a new lego box, unrelated to VWs. I guess it is some anniversary for them and they had a "through the years" thing on the side. I just happened to see it and wondered about it. I found some more pictures online. I guess they were old sets?

the lego cars are kinda hard to find they warped alot.....

With 1/32nd and 1/50th scale[/b]

It's a pity they didn't somehow smooth out the body with the little end cap pieces you can get, rather than just leave the little nibs poking out everywhere.

It looks like a great kit though and would be the center piece of anyone's scale model VW collection.

So my little brother asked if I wanted to play Lego's with him and I reluctantly agreed..... well I got into it and a long while later I "finished" this.

Here is a Lego beetle pan I made. It has air suspension, independent on the front but only up and down on the back because I couldn't find another air cylinder.

engine

spindle and beam

rear suspension

Except for the engine, speedometer and VW logo, this looks less like a Volkswagen Beetle and more like another, much less familiar rear-engined German car called a Maico, which did resemble a Bug from some angles. Even with it not looking right, it's a great kit, and would make a good addition to a collection of VW models as said above.

My son and I built the one on the left :-) We'll both restore the one on the right when it wears out :-)

My fiancée and I stopped by a VW dealership we knew to have a camper bus this weekend (we're buying one soon). They had one of these kits on the receptionists' desk. It was pretty neat. Standing there looking at it made the receptionist a little antsy though it seemed. I guess she felt she needed to do or say something.
