i was looking at the" 72 beetle and super beetle wire diagram" i'm finding it kinda hard following the wires because all the plugs are on one side of the dizzy in the diagram and i thought the firing order was 1-4-3-2 . I would have posted the link from the samba , but don,t know how to do that just yet :?:

This is the "other" '72 diagram you mentioned w/ the incorrect distributor firing order:

I don't really like this style of diagram. Go with the one above that jamesdagg published. It is from Aug '71 which should be '72 model year. I find this type more useful than the "crayon drawings".

Actually, I prefer the later diagrams that came out in '73 that are like this:

Most of the wiring is identical to the '72 so for most things you can use the later diagrams.

Some don't like these, but I do. You can actually "see" what's going on INSIDE switches. You can trace the flow of electricity as it enters a switch, splits and exits in three directions. The older diagrams just expect you to link the proper colored wire to the numbered terminal... try to find your ignition switch in the older diagrms and then figure out which terminals are power by it ;-)

I suppose you need both. The older ones show you WHERE the wiring goes, the later ones shows better how the electricity flows.

ashman40 you hit the nail on the head that was the one i looked at i,ll take a close look at the other one you mentioned

I use both types of diagrams for the reasons stated by ashman40.

There were not that many changes year to year and if you are aware of them you can use the earlier style diagram for a later car. Just double check on the right one when you get the problem figured out.

I have most of them memorized LOL. I like electrical work more than anything.

I got a good laugh at the Muir diagram.

Definitely use Speedy Jim's site for electrical work.
