1st extinguish the fire and let the stove cool, hang a plumbbob from the ceiling to center the location, cut hole through ceiling and then through the roof  and to relate it to bugs, park your bug at the base of the ladder so it doesn't shift on you and stock the front seat with ice cold beer so you don't have to go too far.

LOL ssorry for not making this clear, what i am talking about is hotstove pipe looks like this http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=583221 How do i install it under the breast plate?

jamesdagg Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:13 pm

Rare BS!!

There is just one screw. The rear breastplate screw right next to the large hole in the breastplate goes through the tab on the "stovepipe". It can be installed with all the tin in place. Just lift the breast plate to slip the tab in place.

Never heard it called that.

Here's a new one $14.

mmm, my pipe has two brackets with hole.

itfitz98 Thu Jul 03, 2008 5:00 pm

will that fit on my "RARE" 73 super. Its rare because its grey, metallic green and orangish rad and has on one tail pipe. A collectors item I tell you. Yours for only.............................$84,000. its amazing what adjectives will make people think, isnt it?

Brett Ross Thu Jul 03, 2008 5:42 pm

I see now i guess i will just buy a new one at cip1 and sell the one i have now.

volkenstein Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:08 pm

Brett,
On my '71, besides fiddling with the tin, it also bolted underneath one of the exhaust nuts. I got it in after I'd fitted up everything else (stock exhaust) and realised I had a spare part  .

Do you plan on driivng it in the mid of winter? Why do you even want one if you aren't?

Brett Ross Thu Jul 03, 2008 8:30 pm

Because i am gonna drive it in winter. I need to know how well it starts in winter and if it will make a huge difference. Better than being stuck in the middle of snow storms.

You guys in Idaho Falls are in the Banana Belt =P~ - you don't need no stove pipe!!! I removed all of that crap from one of my JEEPS and it actually ran better in the winter. If you don't want to mess with it, just make sure your choke works OK and let it warm up for a few minutes.

I just took mine off for a baja project. Headers are in the way, but it mounts in the holes just to the left of each hanger. Pokes up through the hole in the tin, so there can't be too many ways to mount it wrong...

I drive mine in summer and that warm air to carb sure helps preventing icing and helps to atomize fuel properly! That's why I found one and installed it! A must for single carb and oil bath cleaner! Oh, I live on the coast of North Carolina, warm and humid for most of the year!

jamesdagg Fri Jul 04, 2008 4:14 pm

Hmmmmm... Mine is missing the right tab. Oh well it stays put.

I just removed mine a couple of weeks ago while painting tin and I thought I'd just leave it off for summer here in the hot dry desert.

I immediately noticed poor performance for the first 10 minutes or so. Not terrible just noticeable, so I put it back and it's fine now. No difference now warm or cold.

Those Germans knew a thing or two about engines. When will I learn not to second guess them? I removed the flaps on my '73. Big mistake!
