I'm just kind of curious if anyone is looking for any parts as I have a full albiet rusty 62' t3 ghia that i'm parting out.
My question is IT seems as though the scarcity of parts may/may not drive people away from restoring these cars and I curious if it has?
I've found bumpers are hard to come by ad well as good doors and trunklids/decklids as well as all the switches and everything that is only for the t3 ghia.
This isn't a for sale ad because I don't have everything stripped. There willl be an ad at that time, I'm just shining the flashlight in the water at the moment :P |

A friend of mine is building one, Patrick Friel aka 2manytoys here on The Samba. I'm sure there are some bits & pieces he may still need.
Starting a thread like this is good. Way to look out for Samba members..... |

I've got a '64 I'm in the middle of. Shell is done, pan and chassis parts will be painted over the next couple of weeks and I'm finalizing my parts selection for the car as a whole. I have everything I need plus spares, however some parts can not be found anywhere in NOS or nice used condition and just need to be restored as they are.
Do the Type 34 community a favor and make an attempt to not break your car for parts, just yet. Throw it out there as a complete unit, with a fair price and a ton of pictures and see how well you do. If it's really a '62 and if it's really complete, then there's a lot of unique parts, as this is the first year for the car. You may be surprised at the lengths some folks are willing to go to restore a first year model.
Give it some time, THEN part it. |

Thanks for the comments fellows. We're really looking to help some people out with parts as far as doors/decklid,hoods seats, door panels, and a whole bunch of other pieces.
The actual car we've bought is a restored 62' Finishing touches as in, glass, and a few other odds and ends need to be completed.
The parts car, as I've found is VERY Rusty on the driver side. Very far gone and I thought my oval had rust
Stay tuned for the whole scoop and pictures to boot!!! |

The rusty car is not a '62. Looks like a 64-65 model. My guess would be 1964. Post the VIN # if you want a more exact date.
It looks like it has a lot of good parts on it. Very nice.
The freshly painted car looks really nice. Congrats on the find. |

| Thanks, I figured it was later than 63' since it has the heater levers and different interior panels. |

Medicine Hat.
Hey Everett, I just checked out your old car photos in the gallery......nice car for sure. I have a question. When you pop the decklid, right down by the latch mechanism (on the 64') there is a sweet ass grill louver type piece mounted, and there is nothing in the 62' is that correct?
I might have to get a pic. |

Yes, 62s don't have those grilles. |

| What about these transmissions. They said this baby could do 90 no prob.... I'm going to pull the motor out of the parts car to lighten it up a bit so i'll check it out when it's up to see what kinda numbers are on it ......I'm wondering how the tranny in there would do bolted up to a dualport in my 61' beetle........that has a full syncro trans and grinds in every gear. lol |

A '62 will do 90 mph but I wouldn't say "no problem" to hit that speed.
A '64 will do 90 a bit easier.
4th gear is the same ratio at 0.89 but the '62 Type 3 does have a lower final drive ratio - 4.125 : 1 for the Type 3 vs. 4.375 : 1 for the Beetle.
They are more comfortable at 70 or so:

Awesome. good to know. Thanks alot.
next question....would amber lenses be correct for the little side light near the front of the door? I have a couple that are white and red at the tip and a couple ambers..........also have the same deal with the front signal lenses....a couple good ambers and a couple that are clear......a bit more faded.
I'm thinking the ambers are the right choice, perfect contrast to the blue paint :) |
