I want to lower my bug but dont know how many clicks to lower the rear. I am building a narrowed, adjustable beam to lower the front. please post pics of your lowered beetles.

Lowered 2.5 in the rear(4 splines both ends) and 5.0 in the front from stock height.

how many splines did you turn in the back?

3" in the front and 1" in the rear. Tires are 195/60-15 on all 4.

Id liked to see a "slammed" one that isnt on bags because thats the direction that im trying to go.

what do the bags have to do with it? if it's one inch from dragging, it's one inch from dragging ,regardless of if you use bags, adjusters, or several fat bitches in the car.... :wink:

My buddies car locally, which happens to be for sale. He has more pics over on VWvortex. Car is laid on the ground with fixed/static suspension. He has a 6" narrowed adjustable non-shock beam, and it bottoms out like mad. You can go crazy low if you want... but be preparred to hate driving it.

In response to "buginva", bags cost money that i dont have a lot of. thats why i dont wanna see bagged cars. i want information on how they lowered it that far, as well as pics. not just pics.

bags don't cost much... the air management can get pricey... and labor if you can't to the fabrication yourself...

the information you seek is probably in a sticky... lowering has been beaten to death in this(and all vw) forum.

besides you said you wanted to "see" slammed cars... looking at them you can't tell if it's bagged or not... :wink:

as buginva said slammed is slammed, i would however recommend bags or adjustable if you are gonna slam it, it does suck to drive slammed, ive built alot of bagged bodydropped truck and few cars, lol. i have slammed a few too because people couldnt afford it, now their oil pan is friend or tranny pan, or cv axles or body or worse. pics are pics. hate to throw a site up but go on mautofied.com. or street source. hope one of us helped you out, and best of luck.

Make sure you also include dropped spindles in the front. It'll give you another 2.5" of travel when you "slam it" so the ride isn't so poor. As for the rear, one is drivable, two will cause you problems, three will be nearly undrivable. At least with the adjustable front end, you can easily raise it back up.

2 notches in the rear and drop spindles on the front, stock beam

not hood ride low or anything, but as a daily driver I wouldnt go much lower. the back of my car is so low that I can hardly get in my driveway, which is virtually flat, also be prepared to scrape in parking garages, inclines, and worst of all speed bumps. as for the front, I want to go lower but that would require smaller tires, adjusters, and a narrowed beam. as is, the 195/50/15s do not rub unless the car has a driver, 2 passengers and at freeway speeds

heres an idea of how much the rear scrapes...

Ive only been driving it for 6 months now and Im already missing 3/8 inch off my header and cracked the paint on my rear apron :evil:

however I get a lot of compliments on how low my car is even though deep inside I wanna go lower :lol:

Maimas13, how many inches off the ground is your apron and exhaust? I drive a lowered mustang which sits 6.5 inches off the ground. Im just trying to get an idea of how careful ill need to be.

the rear is 4.75 inches off the ground. the real problem is that this low point is about 18 inches behinf the rear wheels, so when going up a slight incline it hits no matter what. of course this is with a merged header, id think with stock exhaust there wouldnt be any problems

in the pic you can see how flat my driveway is and that my car still makes some nice scrapes in the asphalt.

the driveway is fairly flat, and the road is fairly flat, but they are both inclined and in opposite directions... that is a recipe for dragging!! i don't miss the days of dragging on everything, everywhere... :wink:

yah and I wanna go lower but I dont wanna beat up my car any more than I do now. the only real way to lower a car and still drive it daily is to bag it... but thats well out of my price range :cry:, so Im planning on bigger tires in the rear and then just enjoying it
