View original topic: Passenger side view mirror... (1970 std)

My 1970 standard has the mirror that screws in thru the door. When I had first purchased my car a few months ago I noted that I wanted a passenger side mirror. So I had gone ahead and purchased THIS set of mirrors for $50.

While my car was in the body shop getting my two-tone paint work done, they replaced the DS mirror for me, and installed the PS mirror as well. It physically installed fined, but the problem I am having is that the mirror's visibility sucks. Such that it seems like the concavity/convexity of the mirror is ALL wrong. Almost to say it is designed to be for a RHD car or something.

Does anyone know anything about this matter, or can anyone offer any help? Is there a different mirror I'd want to purchase that is correct for a LHD/passenger side setup? My DS mirror works fine and shows the road perfectly. My passenger side mirror appears to be "zooming" too close to items or something. TIA for any thoughts...

Since I love to reply to my own threads.. I should point out that I also saw THIS item on CIP1 .. but again I paid $50 for two new mirrors so the price at MAM was better for my needs. But now I am wondering if this CIP1 unit is better for the PS. Anyone know first hand?!

You have to be careful when buying mirrors, there are many versions that function differently. They differ in 2 ways. First, a right side mirror on a RHD car is perfectly flat, that same side on a LHD car would be slightly convex.
Even if you installed a flat RHD Right side mirror onto a LHD car, it may not work. You have to be able to see the mirror from the driver's seat, and a RHD right mirror may not be visible from the left seat. A buddy of mine found this out when he bought a right side mirror for a RHD car. It was completely blocked by the front window/door pillar when viewed from the left seat.

The mirror I have is completely visible from the driver seat, it just doesn't "look" right (again the reflection looks convex when it should be flat or vice versa or whatever). I'd like to make sure I have (or see where I can get) a passenger side mirror for a LHD car.

Can you take them apart and switch just the mirror parts? I was able to do that on my mirrors to get the better one on the driver's side.

They might be swappable, but my driver side unit is spot-on perfect. I wouldn't change it one bit. So the question remains, who sells the ideal/right passenger side mirror for a LHD car?!

I would trust this mirror from WW before MAM or CIP. You might call and ask them about it, the site says it's for the right side and they make it themselves.

On the subject of after-market mirrors, if I had the money, I'd buy the WW ones. If you look at the link http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=113857514D
you can see that the mirror is much higher quality than CIP, MAM, BFY, etc. That slight angle between the "arm" and the "sleeve" make a whole lot of difference. Namely, the angle of the mirror once it's mounted on the car. I had a problem with a cheap one, and it sits at a goofy angle (points kinda "up" instead of striaght out to the side:

Yeah my MAM unit sits that same dorky way on the passenger side, which I know adds to the strange angle of view. But I also know the mirror itself is not right. Okay, WW it is then.... now I just gotta place the order. Think I'll wait a few weeks tho, in hopes I find other stuff to add to the order I need. I'm a few thousand miles away, so might as well get the most out of my shipping from them. ;)
