Well, with all the leaf and bug crap (but thankfuly no rust) blowing at me when I open the dash vents and hit the fan, I decided to take it apart for cleaning. It came out fine, and I got the two parts of the air box apart (one with flaps and outlets, the other with the fan). Looking at the fan part, it appears that the fan and baffle assembly is hung by four rubber isolators. They seem to resemble miniature but hollow versions of the isolators that the FI fuel pump is hing with--rubber in the middle, with a stud on each end.
Two have broken completely, two are headed there, so it sags, probably contributing to the noisiness of the fan when in use (though I think it will always howl). Anyone know of a source for something like these?
At worst, I could use a solid bolt with rubber washers between the parts, but that would transmit more noise. |

Do a search on the whole site. Some posted a thread recently in one of the other forums on finding a source for those.
It may have been in the late beetle forum as they use the same style motor. |

That's one part I cannot remember ever seeing before.
How big is the gap between the two parts? I wonder if you couldn't take an early watercooled radiator mount and shave the sides a bit and get it to work. Probably not, I bet they are still too tall (but they are shorter than the stock type3 fuel pump mounts)

Both good ideas, thanks! I found the thread (both here in the T3 and Super forums):
