View original topic: Can new Ball joints bind and stick?

I swapped out my stock beam with a rebuild and lowered bj beam that I bought along with some caster shims and now it is REAL hard to drive with.

I kept my stearing box but as it naturally drifts, it sticks now and its like the worm gear in the box is too tight but I havent touched that. I noticed that the new ball joints seems REAL stiff.... I dunno but I hate driving my car now.

Thoughts?

Were the new ball joints installed correct? How low is the front and did you use ball joints that are designed for a lowered front end?

Did you get a new steering dampener?

If so, new dampeners can create the condition you describe. Mine was a joy to drive but now with a new dampener it's hard to turn. My 13" diameter steering wheel probably doesn't help either.

no new damper.

I did not install them but I know they were pressed in AND yes they are for lowered beams. What would be an INCORRECT way to install them? Must they be oriented in a certain way?

Yep. A notch (they're two) on the ball joint must line up with a mark on the arm.
