| Hello All. I am pretty new to the bugs. I have a 64 that has wolfsberg crests in it and trying to get some info on this crest/package??? Not really sure about what it means or what years it was used or what types. Any info would be cool. |

| I assume you mean the Wolfsburg crest by the hood handle. Prior to 1960 the crest was multi-colored. In 1960 the crest was chrome castle with red wolf, two blue waves against a black field. In October of '62 (early into the 1963 model year) the Wolfsburg crest was abandoned by VW. If you have a '64 with the Wolfsburg crest, either someone added it to the '64 hood, or swapped for an earlier hood. |

Steering wheel, yes. Shifter? Must be a custom shift knob.

The crest was on the horn button/pad in some form on all bugs through '79 (at least from '56, which is the earliest bug I've had)
The crest was not on the horn button of earlier standard bugs |

Well, if it's a '64 it shouldnt have it on the hood. Only the steering wheel and seatbelt clasp (if it has seatbelts) |

The crest is the crest of the Wolfsburg Castle which is located by the city of Wolfsburg where Volkswagen is headquartered. Actually the city was created for Volkswagen and the name was adopted because of the castle. It's common on alot of Volkswagens.

The crest first appeared on horn buttons in Oct 1952. This type of button used up till 1955 was the most detailed of all the crests. Finished in a Gold tone, details abound in the Castle & Wolf
The crest was redesigned for the 1956-59 models. Alot more plain, but still finished in a Gold tone.
1960-67 the Crest was now Chrome
1968-72 the Crest was plain Silver |

Not to beat this Crest thing to death but……..
My 63 (built 5/24/63) does not have the Wolfsburg Hood Crest.
I’ve been thinking about adding a Crest to my hood, just because I think they add a little something/class to the looks.
I was thinking of using a magnet to stick it on with. I would put the magnet inside the trunk lid and attach the
Crest to the outside over the magnet. This would avoid drilling any holes and it wouldn’t be permanent, keeping it original.
What do you think? |

| THe hood crest is in two parts: the outer shield (the crest itself) and the base. It's not a ferrous metal, so a magnet wont help. |

| You can glue the Crest & base together. Then glue a small earth magnet to the backside of the base which will attach the crest to the hood. Or just use dbl sided tape. The Crest was dropped sometime before Dec 1962 |

| Keep in mind that if you want to put a crest on the hood of a car that didnt come with one originally, you'll have to get the shorter hood trim molding. |

Your right that's something I didn't think about.
I'll post a few pictures when It's done.
